Pi uses USB for connection which is unreliable for hard drives. Also, this won't be a backup solution, so if 1 drive fails you will lose all the data on the failed drive. Unfortunately, there are no cheap solutions for redundant backup these days thanks to Synoloy, Qnap, etc keeping prices sky high.

I hooked 4 of 10tb ones on a Intel NUC i5 8th gen about 3 years ago. Added 32gb ram and a nvme for OS / write cache. Did zfs mirrored vdev, and it works great. zero issues. USB holds
well and no blips. I do have it on UPS. Plex runs off of it. It is not fast as a regular NAS, but for several Plex streams it will do just fine. I did not try a Pi, but a 3 year old nuc is prolly cheaper than a Pi today.

How did you connect 4 drives to NUC? Doesn't it have only one SATA and one M2 nvme slot?
