Too bad its not the K version, it runs better before overclocking like the i7. Also, the heating is misleading and the same as the i7.. the i7k actually runs cooler than without the k (overclock).

Still, imo a good deal for this CPU.

What's a good bang for your buck mother board or series to use with this CPU?

Save everyone a bit time, what's difference between 13400 vs 13400f?

13400f has no integrated GPU.

I thought the same thing until I watched multiple videos on the cpu and found that it is not.

Lol, no. Not even close. Best low budget gaming rig is the R5 5500/5600. Even cheaper is the R3 4100 at $54. At $200-$300, if you have the R5 7600/X at $220 and R7 7700/X or 13600K if you need the extra cores. 13400 isn't too bad at $185, certainly a lot better than $210. But you also have the 5700X that is usually cheaper overall. 13500 is in no man's land.

The Zen3 system has no upgrade path. Yes, the 5600 and 5700 are a bit better and more price competitive, but are also the end of the line. If you're building a new machine on a budget today, getting a Zen3 chip essentially means you have to build a whole new system in two or three years. That makes no sense to me.

edit: I'm running a 5600 system right now, and the prospect of having to either buy a used 5800x3d in a couple of years or just ditch my CPU, mobo and ram is frustrating. it's a good system, especially for what I paid, but only right now.

You think that 5600/5700X will be dead in 2 years? Like they can't run your games at high frame rates? I don't see that argument. I can drop in a 5800X3D/5900X. What high end CPU are you dropping in your $80 H/B series board that is thermal throttling? And what expensive cooling for the extra power and heat? By your logic, so what's the point of going with the 13400? There are better options out there.

If I was looking to build a gaming system, I think the R5 7600 is the only choice here.

Dead? No, but a lot less attractive than it is now. Not to mention that, because soooo many people are building cheap Zen3 now, there may be significantly more future demand for used 5800x3ds than there is for most older high tier procs. The upgrade path is pretty much one or two specific chips, seems like there will be a demand for them well into the future. As far as thermal performance goes, replacing a 5600 with a 5800x3d or 5950 would also almost certainly necessitate a cooler upgrade. Whereas a 13400 system could be upgraded with a similar tier part which is generations better and probably has equal or better thermals. Intel could change things up sooner than expected, but assuming two or three more years before an architecture refresh, I like the odds of an Intel upgrade path over a Zen3 in 2025.

I agree that right now the 7600 is a good choice. But obviously not in this price tier.

Why do u have a spare board?? It's a ddr4 board. Build it together for now. But definitely buy a ddr5 board and ddr5 ram since you have cutting edge processor that can handle ddr5 now.

What upgrade path for 13th gen intel is there that is so much better? Intel is usually a 2 generations and done for sockets, and seeing as 12th and 13th gen are shared…
You are stuck on 13th gen, so you can max out to a 13th gen i9 and done. Granted the i9 is pretty solid but you are stuck there.

The only argument on the intel side for upgrade path is buying the first gen chip/mobo on a new socket. 13th gen is not that.

Not sure where you're going with this. What are you upgrading from the 13400 to? A cheap B660 board with DDR4 and 65w cooler that can barely run the chip to what a 13700?

If you want to upgrade to a 13700k, you'll need more cooling and better motherboard. So you're paying more for less performance.

The 7600 is $220 with a cooler and can run on any $100 A620/B650 motherboard. A 12th/13th gen will be gimped by DDR4. Your 13400 with DDR4 will not beat the 7600 in gaming.

people pairing Intel with DDR4 is such a bad move. lol oh welps.
