I switched from Chase a while back. It's still a little strange to get monthly interest payments after so long with Chase's 0.000000001%
I just keep everything in savings for the higher interest rate. They have a setting called overdraft protection where they just move money automatically from your savings if there is not enough in your checking to cover an expense.
Why don't they make it a full month to get 2 direct deposits instead of '25 day evaluation period' seems gimmicky and a way to make it harder to qualify for employer's direct deposits to hit in time.
That's exactly why they don't make it a month.
I've found a good rule of thumb whenever looking at a bank giving out bonuses is to skip the marketing wank and go straight to the full terms and conditions to see how they're going try to weasel out, and what you need to do if you want to stop them.

SoFi is TERRIBLE - avoid them like the plague. Bot customer service, arbitrary changes to your transfers (reversed endpoints), spammy and paranoid security measures only when it benefits them to hold onto your money. They're gaming the system of transfers and security lock-outs to maximize profits in the aggregate, holding onto your money as long as possible. Just another fintech that deserves to bite the dust like Silicon Valley Bank.
Adding that i tried to create account with them last year and got denied. Something is fishy with them, never had account denied in my entire life, i would stay away too.
I've done this in the past, but if I can transfer money from my Robinhood to my sofi account, will that count towards the direct deposit? It worked for capital one and I got the $400 sign up bonus they had
No. It needs to be a legitimate direct deposit not an ACH transfer.

I switched to SOFI in Spring last year pretty much around this May/June time. I have been with Washington Mutual/Chase > EverBank > Radius Bank/LendingClub > SOFI. Also played with T-Mobile Money. This is hands down the fastest deposit account for pretty much anything. You scan a check and you have it available in no time. You get your direct deposit announced from your employer and it's available in your SOFI account, it's insane. My employer tells me 4/30 is payday and it should be in the account by 5/1 and I have it 4/28. Love it. The app is a bit tailored to millennials and I don't care about 80% of the stuff in there but checking / savings works flawlessly. Up to 2 million FDIC if you need that (I wish) but you would need to manually enable it. All point ATM network. I used to love radius bank with global atm free withdrawals but with LendingClub takeover the interest rate went down. With Sofi essentially 4.2% on checking with no shitty 20 debit card transactions or other hurdles is hard to beat. I like it!
SoFi has been good for me. No issues though I noticed any transfer transactions or deposits seem to take longer than my other banks… than again my other banks don't pay me 4.2% APR.
SoFi is no different than other banks/fintechs. They are there to make money so don't pretend that they are looking out for your best interest.
- They don't support Mint because they have something similar.
- I couldn't transfer money from investment account to checking and they said it's because they couldn't verify my accounts. They are both within SoFi so that made no sense to me. This is paypal all over again. They can freeze your money whenever they want.
- Their automated investing is basically a scam. They advertise no fee but in reality you would be buying their high expense ETFs.
- Their recurring trade only allows funding from outside SoFi. It could have been a good feature if they allow you to use the fund you already have in the account. But hey, why make it convenient when you only care about bringing more money in.
- They sued to end the student loan pause. I have seen SoFi fanboys bend over backward to try to explain that lawsuit. At the end of the day, they only care about their bottom line.
So do your homework and don't buy into the marketing nonsense.
Been with Sofi for over 4 months and it has become my main bank. I kept my chase account open just in case and use it to for cash deposits and Zelle if needed but really haven't used it much since switching. Paychecks get deposited a day or two earlier but all depends on payroll. Interest paid savings is insane and still freaks me out when i see the high payments because I've been used to seeing Pennie's paid since my Washington mutual days. App need some maturing because and they try to sell you on their ecosystem which may make it look cheap but in reality it's not a deal breaker. If I didn't use my Citi costo card as my main , I'd consider Sofi's credit card. I highly recommend Sofi and have to all my friends and family. Btw, all those sub accounts to save for other items is really useful too.
How long does it typically take the $250 bonus to come in? I have just received my second direct deposit a few days ago and was wondering how long should I wait until I reach out to SoFi.
Yes, definitely. You lucked out. They're a cheating fintech, and their time will come...
I've been using SoFi for nearly a year and it's been wonderful so far. Transfers are fast, rates are nice, and the app is good. I called them a number of times and got straight through to a person and was taken care of… What evidence can you provide they are "cheating" whatever that means.

I opened a SOFI account using the promo, and just love it.
A no-nonsense banking app with great features, great interest. Also they don't hold on to your transfers for a few days, the transfers are fast, feels like instantaneous when compared to the other banks that hold your money for 5 days before transferring it.
Love SOFI and totally recommend !
p.s: their promo worked on me, they have a customer for the keeps ; )

I've Made thousands doing so. And if you think that's unethical you should get your head checked.
