You are supposed to compare the price against the hardware not compare to a different system at a different time. As normal anyone can whine

Nice one for a 3070Ti, which could last 5 years for AAA games I believe.

OK, here is the deal with HP Laptops, as I have fixed many...

1) The quality is fine. The display is fine. Don't open or close it too much
2) The battery will expand in about 3 years, and the case will start coming apart
3) The case is easy to open up, and you will have to fix something in 3 years
4) Lots of bloatware. Get rid of all of it
5) All in all, it's fine, but not great
6) This seemingly is a pretty good deal

This is pretty spot on. I own this laptop that my wife bought me for Christmas. I use it as my desktop replacement as it's a pretty big beast. I primarily use it to edit my 4k youtube videos using davinci reslove. For this it works great. I've never played any games on it which is probably a sin to most... 😂 So far it's been great and I'm totally happy with it.

Last year I got the previous model with 11th gen CPU and 3060 GPU. Great machine. It did have issues when I upgraded to 64GB of RAM, but they replaced the motherboard under warranty and it's been rock solid ever since.

Thanks OP!
For others comparing with Ryzen systems, yes they may be cheaper, but it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. Also, for me one priority was Thunderbolt 4 since I have a TB4 dock for my work laptop, so I can easily swap back and forth with my external devices with a single cable.

I picked up this laptop as an open box for $1079.96 earlier this month. The Open box price has now dropped by $90. I was able to get price protection claim approved from microcenter!

For the price, This laptop is an amazing value.

PROS:
1. The huge 17" screen.
2. brightness good enough to watch videos and for gaming. I am not sure why anyone would need a brighter screen than what's being offered. (Look into cons for a related point)
3. The keyboard feedback is great and the track pad is very responsive.
4. Love the per key customizable RGB lights.
5. The battery life is surprisingly good. Coming from a Ryzen processor, I don't miss it too much for its battery life. This laptop runs long enough for me to comfortably use it without it being plugged in.
6. Very comfortable to use on lap.
7. Many more but just keeping it short.

CONS:
1. The Power Brick is huge. I took this trade off because I don't plan to use this laptop on the go given its size and weight.
2. The laptop is quite heavy for mobile use. However much lighter than my previously owned 17" Dell laptop. So not too bad!
3. Screen wobbles on open and close. However I don't find it to be a huge problem because during the use it doesn't really move around a lot to bother me. Would I call it cheap? NO. However I agree the hinge could be designed better to reduce that wobble.
4. No NUM Pad. I miss the num pad while working on excel. However its not a deal breaker and I do appreciate the roomy key placement which was possible due to the missing num pads.

Overall, I love this laptop. It can handle mostly anything you would throw at it without draining your wallet too much!

Can I ask what you use thunderbolt for. Outside of an external GPU I can't find any applications that my USB-C ports can't handle. I'm also told USB4 is now supported on most new AMD machines as well.

But again. I'm pretty sure almost nobody uses thunderbolt 4.

How does it compare with the Alienware m17 r5 3070ti? Similar price with 10% coupon + amex $120 off.
Can you point me to this deal?

Any feedback on the keyboard? Would the function keys on the left make it awkward to get used to?

External 4k displays and drives simultaneously. Mostly, I have a TB4 dock for work and I want to ensure 100% compatibility with both machines without any screwiness.
