Nobody is forcing rich people, or poor people to buy Apple... those folks are ripping themselves off by purchasing Apple, not the other way around.

Would this be a good storage device to run a pfsense firewall box? I understand there are a lot more GBs than needed, I'm wondering about the stability, speed, and reliability.

Was gonna ask something similar. Wanted to run a "home server" type box that handles pf sense, homeassistant and stuff like that. Is 512gb enough ?

Pretty deep psuedo-SLC cache and rated for 400 TBW. Here's a review. Note the benchmarks were run on the 1TB variant.

Should be fine. I have a Proxmox server with 512gb boot drive. It's running plex, home assistant, omada controller, Debian LXC, etc.

At this price, tempted to install a couple and run in RAID 0 just to see how fast it can go.

512 GB is way overkill for what you are mentioning. That isn't a bad thing. The extra space doesn't hurt anything, and you may find a use for it. If nothing else, you can use the extra space to store backups/rollbacks of your various apps.

They do it not because it gets more expensive but because they can get away with it. All they need an artificial difference between the same but slightly different products to charge more, an industry practice called segmentation. In China, you can workaround this by getting your phone soldered a larger memory chip and get even larger memory iphones than what Apple offers. If we could do it in the US, Apple would have to find another way to segment the iphones.

You can run pfsense on a 32gb drive so this would work. Think I have mine running on a 256 and it's been fine for 3 years now.
