A number of the reviews talk about tangles. Indeed, looking at the pictures (especially the grey one) it looks like the filament was spooled pretty haphazardly. I would bear that in mind before purchasing.

I've been through several rolls of Monoprice PLA (Premium, Plus+ Premium, and Hi-Gloss) and had no tangling issues thus far. It isn't wound up perfectly like Prusament or anything but I personally haven't had problems with tangles.
I loaded up on Monoprice PLA in mid 2021 when they had a sale for $10.50/kg and so far I've been happy with it. At this price, it seems like a good buy if you need it.
not knowing anything about 3d printers, we bought one a while back that's still in the box (waiting to finish some work on the house next month before opening), are these like, universal? or do certain printers require specific types of filament? I realize some are better than others, but are there some that are just incompatible, or am I ok to just stock up on whatever deals i find in the meantime while i'm waiting?

This 1.75mm diameter is the most universal. The 2.8mm and 3.0mm diameters are the ones that are less compatible and noobs usually make the mistake of buying them because they become cheap. But my advice to you is just start printing and get the hang of it before hoarding them, just buy ir 2 different rolls. Alot of people give up after a few tries, or prefer a specific material. And you can always score deals here too

So long as your printer uses 1.75mm filament, you'll be able to use this. It may take a bit of testing to see what temperature settings you should use for your printer.

It says free shipping on $35 or more. I would add two more and check shipping again to see if it is still charging.
