if you ditch the Lisbon- barce flight, your entire return trip will get cancelled.

Best to look into booking a stopover in Lisbon that's built into the itinerary

Now, if your flight was a one way flight to Europe, with a transfer in lisbon, then you can totally ditch the lisbon to barce flight, since you don't have to worry about a return trip being cancelled. Just know that your checked luggage might go to barce so don't check anything. This kinda flight is known as a throwaway or hidden city ticketing. The reason for doing this is that sometimes the one way ticket to barce is cheaper than ticket to Lisbon

Not bad, Barcelona is on the Mediterranean of course so weather isn't so bad in winter, you just won't be at the beach

Just came from there. You can enjoy the beach just fine. Weather was infinitely nicer then SoCal.

I just went to Barcelona on TAP from Newark in March. I had no issues with the flights. I'd go again.

Anyone know if there's a penalty if you get off in Lisbon and don't continue to Barcelona, but want to fly to Barcelona later to explore the city and catch the return flight to SF? Will they let you on that return flight for example?

Edit: just to be clear, I would expect to make separate accommodations to get to Barcelona at a later date.
