You may get better trade-in values for these phone if you even use it for 3 months and get your card . Even though phone will be locked but you can trade for carrier deals or at bestbuy ( during holidays ) for better TIV.

Maybe I can add a qualifying line for 3 months, cancel that line, and then swap in my existing el cheapo plan SIM for unlocking purposes like NickSlickBlack is asking, I don't know.
