Yet another cable that doesn't have it's main capability printed on the connector. How hard is it to print "100W" or "USB 2.0" on the cable?

I've got a drawer of USB-C cables that I have no idea if they are USB 2 or 3, charging only and how many watts, PD or not, Thunderbolt or not, etc. A couple have "100W" on the label -- kudos to them.

Seems like a basic requirement the rookie USB standards board completely overlooked.

Not really an offer.

I can sneeze and Alexa will try to upsell that to me

Can you please suggest a tester? I haven't had much luck with the admittedly cheap ones I tried.

Best way to test your charging current/speed is with an app called Ampere. You'd be surprised how much it can vary from cable to cable and between various chargers.
Agree! I was shocked at the difference among cables and chargers.

By spec, high-power cables (> standard 60W) must be e-marked.

They need to stop with the "usb2.0" on type c cables. It's completely retarded as they're aren't any USB 2.0 host devices using type c.
I agree, Type-C cables should have been required to meet USB 3 data speeds at a minimum.

But the USB IF acceded to the concerns of those who wanted lower cost options, so USB 2 is the base data spec. For most users, for whom cables are just for charging, they'll never notice.

The connector is a big improvement, but the execution of the vision for Type-C has been uneven, if not bad in some respects, and not made any better when the USB IF concocted their harebrained naming scheme, and changed it again, while mostly everyone has ignored the physical marking requirements.

Now, the question has gone from "do I have the right cable that has that type of plug" to "do I have the right cable, since they all look the same, and have no markings to tell them apart."

Then there are the half-baked Type-C charging ports that won't work with Type-C sources, only Type-A, because the manufacturers were too cheap to spend a few cents on the pulldown resistors to properly make their devices indicate that they are passive sinks.

Which app do you recommend? I was in the play store and there are 20+ apps with that in the name and most have horrible reviews.

Anybody have comparison experience of these versus Monoprice Wrap series cables?
I got a 3 pack for less than this single cable, and they have the same specs and size, as well as lifetime warranty.

Wait. The charge cords are rated too? Is that why my MacBook Pro charges slow with a 100w block; probably because I'm using lower rated cord? 😩

I bought this cable six months ago. I use it for charging devices, and it's been great. Not understanding all the expectation for it to be USB3/Thunderbolt. Don't get me wrong, that would definitely be nice, but for $5-7 seems reasonable to me.

Mine has held up, no issues with the tips coming apart or anything like that. Latches onto ports properly. Only con is it's pretty heavy, but also is heavy duty. Wish there was an in-between length like 8ft for the same price. 10ft seems great, but would probably be even heavier.

I don't see this particular cable listed in the USB certified product registry, which has a functional, but not exactly friendly search mechanism.

However, AmazonBasics is considered a reputable brand for Type-C, and has a history of certified products listed in the registry.

If you have an interest in USB stuff, I'd suggest you poke around the UsbCHardware subreddit, where Benson Leung is a mod, and hangs out, as opposed to the peanut gallery here.

good enough for Android Auto? Can't seem to find a cable that lasts with the constant strain. Tried Anker and more.

What does emark mean? I assume it's not labeled physically, it's marked and can be found in software, somehow?

Had decent luck with UGREEN so far. Tried 5+ cables before finding one that wouldn't randomly disconnect while driving. There are also right angled cables that might work better for you depending on how you have your setup.

On your mac check the "System Report" at Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info, or if on Ventura that will take you to System Settings > About, then at the bottom click "System Report".

The "AC Charger" section will tell you the Wattage you're getting (currently 87W for me from my CalDigit dock). That helped me identify some bad cables that were only doing < 40W.
