I've had this refrigerator for a year. There is an issue with the design of freezer compartment. The drawer on the bottom extends further out then the rest of the selves. On top of the drawer is thin non-tempered glass. We had a piece of frozen meat slip off the upper shelf and it crashed thru that glass above the bottom drawer. It was a mess to clean up the shards of glass. This is not covered by the warranty. I didn't want to replace with the same cheap glass. Bought a sheet of 1/4" PVC plastic, and cut it to size.

Appliance repair has been my business for almost two decades. LG makes some good appliances just NOT refrigerators. Even with new r600 refrigerant their compressors are still failing at an alarming rate.

Same thing just happened to me. Compressor warranty is 10 years on the part but couldn't get no one from LGs authorized repairman list to do the job. Mine lasted 9 years though so it wasn't to bad. That was the only issue I ever had with it, but it was a fatal.

Once you throw out several hundred dollars worth of food, warranty repair becomes less attractive. Then years 5 -10 only labor is under warranty. So you will pay another ~$500-$700 to replace compressor and throw more food out. At the end of the day spending on wasted food and repairs what would amount to another brand new refrigerator. Hopefully not an LG this time.

I reckon I'll just keep rolling with my 1996 top freezer Kenmore made by GE that leaks on the bottom right. I think I gave around $650 for back in 1996. Its in-freezer icemaker has been nearly flawless.I do take a long bristle brush and clean the coil at the bottom once a year or so. I replaced the door gaskets about 5 years ago.

When did it change? I had a LG in my previous house that I bought in 2007. It lasted me the 2 years I used it myself plus the 12 more years I rented the house out until I sold the house with never an issue. Was I just lucky or is it a case of they don't make them like they used to?

I bought a front loading Maytag maybe 3 years ago and the water inlet valve has been replaced twice. Fortunately it's an easy enough repair and the part isn't very expensive but I'm disappointed it only lasts about a year before I need another.

We have an old Maytag side by side 33" with the paddle type ice maker and it's still faithfully dispensing ice after nearly 21 years. Our dishwasher, a GE profile, is about 18 years old and it's still going. Our Maytag Neptune washer still washes clothes. The old stuff just lasts.

Funny enough, my personal LG washer dryer set is going on 12 years repair free.

You are right, they don't make them like they used to. Once they switched to inverter ran compressors sometime in the early 2010s to meet energy consumption regulations, quality took a dive.
