We bought one and the adjustable spring mechanism failed, so now we just got a long bolt and stuck it through the hole... not ideal. Got a Rep fitness bench and worth spending the (significantly more) money
This[thefitnessoutlet.com] is pretty similar to the non stationary ones at my gym, never seen one out of service. There's all type so it really depends on what you're trying to do. Reccommend this one[target.com] if you're just starting out.
These "open triangle" frames all look sketchy. Those obtuse angles really multiple the force on the welds at the center. It just looks like it needs a crossbar at the bottom. Those little support arms probably help, but still looks a wee bit sketchy.

Lolz at the Nautilus bench. I'm bookmarking the Target one and getting it for my daughter when she turns 3 or 4. Hope to convince my wife to convert some space to full power rack home gym by then.

That being said, the locking mechanism on the Flybird model seems a bit sus. OP design seems a bit more secure
