Seeing all the videos and news about drugs and crime in SF, any locals out there let us know if it's as bad as the media and social media portrays it to be?

It's usually like this but it's dependent on which street you're on. Avoid anything by civic center and the tenderloin.

It's somewhat over-hyped by those with agendas, but the drug problem is very real, especially in the Civic Center / Tenderloin and Mid-Market street areas.

This deal seems quite cheap although I don't track local hotel rates very closely. Kimpton is a decent hotel group. The area is "touristy" but close to lots of sites and spots.

Danger-wise, I'd mainly recommend not leaving luggage or other valuables in your car, not even the trunk. If you have photography or video gear, I'd also advise extra caution.

Other than that, if I was looking for a deal to visit SF, I'd seriously consider this one.

I stayed here last year and it was great. There is a little cafe around the corner, you can walk all around the wharf, the restaurant is highly rated (didn't eat there, though), and I felt entirely safe. The happy hour is fun because you can meet other travelers. I visit SF about every other month and the city is vibrant and fun, particularly the Marina, Embarcadero, Golden Gate Park areas. Like any city, there is crime, but no more than LA or even Nashville. Union Square is the least appealing of all parts of the city and the hotel rates there reflect that. I rarely go to that part of town now.

Born, Raised, and went to College in the San Francisco Bay Area... I moved 2 hours North to Roseville in 2015 and I'm glad I did. I can actually afford to live here.

Today, San Francisco is beyond recognizable to me.

When I drove to the SFO Airport, it was like driving through a scene from a Batman Movie (Gotham City)... today it's a dead city. But, my heart will always be there. Hopefully she comes back.

It's real... they found a severed human leg/foot on a BART train a few years back... 22 days after the lady that it belonged to lost it... gnarly story.

It's not a safe (or clean) place for children or the elderly.
