Solid price dip based on the historical pricing Amazon has used for this model.

Almost bought, but then I saw the numerous images of people showing these cables melted/caught fire. I'll pass.

Aluminum. Not so good for heavy amp draw.

Thanks. Good to know. I was wondering how they could give you 4-gauge copper cables for only $18.33.

In for 1. Yes these are CCA but I have a set just like this and have jumped my car (a sedan) a few times and jumped my riding mower a couple times too. For that they were perfect. In for one to replace the short ones in my wife's car.

I bought mine in 2018 for a slightly lower price than this. The last time they were this price was 2020.

If you're running a towing service or have to jump start a full tractor or something big you might want to pass but for an emergency item for the car, these have been great for me.

Not true, but the current capacity of 4AWG aluminum is lower than the equivalently sized copper. That said, this should be more than enough to boost a car or light truck.

While not as good as copper, 4 gauge aluminum should be plenty good enough to jump start a car. In most cases, the vehicle that will not start only needs a boost. If the battery is completely dead, leave the jumpers on a few minutes. The biggest draw from the starter motor is that 1/2 to 1 second when it engages and begins to turn the engine over. After that it, the starter will draw less current and the voltage from the jumpers will increase providing the power needed for the starter.
I've used a peice of network cable (4 24 gauge wires) to jump start a vehicle; just got to know what you are doing and the limitations.

Most likely caused by someone who did not connect correctly or continued to crank the engine for a long period of time. When connected to a battery, the battery will draw about 20-25 amps. That is not going to get the cables hot. Once the starter is engaged, the amps may jump up to 100-150 amps. If the voltage drop across the jumpers is 3 volts, that would mean the cables are creating 300 to 450 watts of heat.
