Absolutely. While it is a generation old, it's still a top 5 CPU for gaming, and more than enough multi-threaded performance for most users. This build should easily last you 5+ years.

But performance aside, this is a great value. The motherboard is worth around $200, the 12700k $300, and RAM $40. So $540 of product for $350.

As a 13900k/3090/DDR5 owner, if I didn't have the need for what I have now, I would have picked this up in a heartbeat (maybe two!).
The processor will still chew up anything you throw at it and I have the z790 version of that board for my 13900k and it is wonderful; packed with good connections and options.
I'd wait for matching RAM to go on sale and then buy at least one more stick but being that RAM is so cheap now I would rather get three and max out the board.
This setup calls for an air cooler if you want stability. I've got a Noctua NH-U12A for mine as these professors are very hot and hard to tame but that fan is like half the price of this system and I think you can be aas with a lower cost one. I would look at the Noctua D-15.
Get the biggest GPU you can afford and throw it into a Fractal case (I love the Torrent) and you're not only good to go, but you'll lead the pack for years to come.

I picked this up yesterday, but didn't know about the $25 coupon. Any chance they'll honor it after the sale?

I signed up for the coupon and wasted the phone number. I was told at the store that the coupon does not apply to clearance items. Are they bullshitting me?

Got it two weeks ago and replaced my old 9600k. There are two things you need to know:
1. You old cpu fan may not fit the motherboard since holes layout is different. I bought an universal backplate for the motherboard and it works.
2. Windows 10 does not recognize the motherboard wifi and i update the system to windows 11 and it works.

Isn't i7-12700k compatible with DDR5? I also read that it's better to run 2 sticks of RAM than 4 sticks.
Only for overclocking and chasing the numbers. You can't tell the difference with normal usage.

It is but the bundle MB does not support DDR5, hence the price. I do wish it is DDR5 but for the price I can build a nice first gaming pc for my kid.

Not a gigabyte fan and it seems this board replaced the asus z690 board a week prior that probably sold out.

Still, amazing value. 1 yr ago, the CPU alone cost around this much. In terms of current gen performance, give or take around a 13600K.

Yes it is compatible and you're suggesting that two sticks of matched RAM is better than four? As in is 32gb better than 64g? Not sure why? There are some arguments about those kinds of things but if and when it is applicable, there are specific reasons. But you're not going to get worse performance with more RAM id the same kind but I also wouldn't suggest more than 32gb if you aren't doing shit that requires it.
more sticks adds more stress on the cpu (the memory controller specifically)..resulting in looser ram timings, and less overclock gains…this is an enthusiast area tho

generations don't really matter..just check the benchmarks and see if it performs enough for you.
Intels been slacking anyway with marginal improvements

Because they are only 2 channels with 4 slots. There's a high chance they would be out of sync if you use all 4 slots. Especially DDR5
there's no such thing as "out of sync" for ram..no matter the amount of the slots

Came here to talk about this too.

Using all four slots on 2 channel ram will give you at worst, some negligible inefficiency. Just add more ram, but make sure it matches first.

This kit is ddr4, ddr5 is border line esp on alderlake, speed and compatibility is worse with 4 sticks of dd5.
