Overpriced - Yes. I bought my Embody on sale directly from Herman Miller for 1k with all the extras. This was in 2016, I get inflation but the new price is beyond inflation. The same chair I purchased in 2016 for $1050 is now $2020.

Over-hyped - I still don't think so. Due to life happening, at a young age I've always had lower back pain. Sitting down in an office chair never helped either. I researched Embody and decided to pull the trigger on it seven years ago. After adjusting I've never felt back pain sitting down, at least not in this chair. I used to work at an office and sat in multiple chairs depending which office/conference room I was visiting and every chair made my back eventually hurt. A lot of these chairs were very expensive as well. Plenty of online reviews comparing chairs, mostly all reviewers agree Embody chair is great.

I work from home now, and the only thing I would like to have on my Embody is a headrest. Luckily "Atlas Headrests" have made a headrest for it. I'm just waiting for mine to eventually ship.

Would I buy an Embody again? Yes. Would I wait for a bigger sale before buying one? Maybe

Herman Miller isn't the only bad guy here when it comes to over inflating cost, Steel Case has done the very same thing. The Haworth Fern does seem like an interesting option.

Looking for a reasonably priced gaming chair under $200, anyone have any recommendations or any deals going on?

I'm going for it. Really wish I could compare the Embody/Gesture/Fern in person, but no such showroom exists near me. The refurbished Steelcase Gesture deal on the front page right now is intriguing, but I'm not particularly enthused about dealing with returns/warranty from a 3rd party refurbisher on a chair that costs almost as much as my mortgage.

At least this deal offers a relatively hassle-free 30-day return policy straight from the manufacturer, and the 12-year warranty should be irrefutable. If the Embody doesn't change my life, I'll send it back and try the Gesture/Fern next time.
I've tried both chairs probably about a year ago. They are totally different feeling chairs in my opinion. They both felt very good, and totally different. I actually liked the Embody a little more, but I wasn't sure if it could keep it's feeling for long. Maybe it could, I just didn't know. There's a lot of flexing going on with Embody. It moves with you. I went with the Gesture.LMAO I know. The dealer told me, "typically" the Gesture fits taller people better he told me, but I should go with the one I liked best. It was difficult. The Gesture has more what some people would consider a proper seating position. I'm 6-0 and I think I was on the line as far as what's considered, taller.

Returning furniture is no easy task

"Your refund will be reduced by a restocking charge equal to 10% of the total purchase price not to exceed $500 per item."
You intentionally only post part of the policy? Chairs are literally exempt

Your refund will be reduced by a restocking charge equal to 10% of the total purchase price not to exceed $500 per item. Restocking fee is waived for returns of accessories*, lighting, and Herman Miller branded performance seating.

Also your right, but these chairs come fully assembled so you literally put a bag back on it and roll it back into a box and it can get picked up by a carrier.

Even used these are $6-$800 now. Covids' consumption of office chairs created a huge demand when suppply was low. Supply still isn't back to pre covid days, so that inflation are major factors in driving the prices up.

You ain't kiddin'. I live between two major metro areas, and if I widen my search to include both major cities on Craigslist, then the cheapest used Embody that comes up is $950 and two hours away.

Anything that anyone found at any price before 2019 is no longer relevant to any SD conversation.

Came here to say this. F*** Herman Miller. Vote with your wallets because the CEO is an entitled c***. SteelCase, is the only proper choice now.

+1 for terrible price. I got two like new Aeron's from Cort for $250/ea.

They want $1500 for an Aeron "on sale?" the supply chain lack of availability is long gone, don't buy into the lies. They are gouging. From a guy whose entire home offfce is 100% HM, they can get bent

Just buy from someone that sells decommissioned office chairs locally. I have a steelcase leap v2, that I got refurbished on eBay for like $300
only option other than new and ebay imo. I wouldn't want a chair from a private seller. You don't know how these chairs were used... The best case is a return/refurbished or a warehouse retailer selling sparingly used chairs from companies liquidating..

Sounds like you might like https://www.anthros.com . Don't think any are in the wild yet beyond the couple they take to trade shows.

I wasn't too keen on Herman Miller after their CEO's Pity City BS so checked out Anthros after your post. They are pricey but ended up pre-ordering their chair since they're made in the USA and have a good return policy.

Try Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist is a ghost town these days.

I just bought a used, like new condition, from someone who moves out of state and needed to get everything out asap. Offered him $600 and he accepted.
Wow, this chair is super comfortable.
Had a Steelcase gesture and HM classic before.
