It's way better than a Chromebook. Make sure you modify the power limit and graphics settings in bios (watch ETA Prime youtube vid) to double the performance. You can't beat this value for the cpu and 16gb (soldered) ram and 500gb m2 ssd. Free upgrade to Win11. Limited bloatware. Refurbished units pop up on walmart for ~$260 of the 14" model.
I bought the 15" model last October for $300 (has numeric keypad), works great. The webcam is poor quality. Speakers are okay. The screen is a decent ips (no issues with it falling out like some reported in previous deal threads). They keyboard is nothing special. A tad heavy but it uses metal/limited plastic so build quality is average. The battery only lasts ~3hrs unplugged w battery saver browsing web/watching youtube/movies.
It has older wifi 5 & bt 5. One thing I noticed though is my HDMI output can only do 4k at 30fps, not 60fps so not really watchable. 1080p HD looks fine hooking up to TV though. I'm not sure about the usb-c output resolution.
It has a hatch in the back to add a backup m2 ssd drive (Leven JM600 1tb $40 off amazon).
Same price during Christmas season, several times. I bought in December & am pleased. Of note, problems w/ fingerprint reader was mentioned by several people & I affirm that. Repped.

Just a heads up before you return the laptop.. the Cortana set up forces u to create a pin and then you can't see the create a pin a menu. Had to enter it blind and tab down to enter again.
I got refurb one, using it now so far so good. Gotta get used to the smaller keyboard. Battery report shows practically new. Need to use more and make sure ports are operational. Fingers crossed.
I love these cheap throwaway laptops but not this one for two reasons. Ram is soldered on and no extra slot and my assumption is one channel. No upgrades or salvaging memory if the motherboard fails. I miss the days when the CPUs were removable and the bios would let you change CPUs. The second reason is I was told this does not support NVME. Two m.2 sata only slots.
Note: I have a 15.6" Gateway laptop with i3-1115G4 and 8GB ram and 256BG SSD.
I disabled cpu turbo in the bios for lower temperature and less power.
If your i5-1135G7 is too hot or you want less fan noise or a longer battery life, you can disable cpu turbo in the bios.
Then your i5-1135G7 will run at 2.4 GHz (if I am correct) which should be enough for www and older games.

Encountered the exact problem. Incidentally figured it when pressing alt+tab. Took some trials to blindly punch in the pin and confirm it to proceed. Did give me some disappointment though.
Got this two years ago, same specs. Battery had swollen when I left it plugged overnight. It no longer boots up. I don't know if it's still worth fixing or just trash it. Got mine for $350 so this is a good deal, just hope battery won't explode.

These are junk. Spend a little more it's worth it.
Sadly, yes these appear to be junk based on recent reviews.

Why would you nerf your performance like that? Terrible advice.

Consider an extended warranty. Luckily Gateway honored theirs and replaced my unit but the screen crapped out within a month or two. They gave me a different color replacement too and I don't know how the replacement is warrantied now.
So there is a manufacturers warranty? And for how long does that apply? I purchased one yesterday but didn't get the warranty from Walmart. Wondering if I should have and curious as to know what my options are now.

Given that it's still very snappy. Have 2 of them and work just fine.
