Pretty sure the chemicals damaged the pipes.

Whether you get this or the tub shroom, I just had a $12,000 finished basement repair after jackhammers and plumbing were needed, all caused by junk going down a drain.

This and "Green Gobbler" on a 6 month subscribe and save for life are required forever now.

An ounce of prevention...

If you look at this product, you can see that it is some thing that would never sell for five dollars. It's from a good brand, it's actually two separate products, and it's made with silicone and stainless steel which are pretty high-quality materials.

Suspecting that you were mistaken, I reviewed the price history on the website that records historical trends in the price history of a product. The lowest this item has ever been in the history of it being sold is $12.55. Therefore it looks like you've made some sort of mistake or you're just trying to stir up trouble.
When SD friends and family is trying too hard. Why would be lie?

Hair, cooking grease can't damage the pipes to the point where they need replacement. Snake it and you are good
You can now snake with a camera as well. Which you should request to see the video before paying $12,000

Definitely this.

The latest scam plumbers are using on +30 year homes is that the sewage lines have to be dug up and replaced because the pipes themselves are corroding and forming permanent blockages that waste gets caught on. The way it was described to me was like stalactites inside a cave. The quote for replacing an 8FT section came out to $3000 and the cleanout is at least 24FT from the sidewalk. They didn't quote me on what it would cost for the 40FT section under the slab where the actual clog was, but I bet it would have been painful.

I could see this happening on old fiber pipes, but galvanized pipes corrode inside out. You'd have a hole long before any kind of major rust buildup. Sure enough, the camera showed none of this. I'll probably have them relined, which is way cheaper than replacement.

With that said, constantly trying to solve the issue with chemicals can speed up corrosion and create spots where waste can't flow as smoothly.

For the DIYers, they have a snake attachment for your pressure washer that's way more effective than a standard snake, doesn't mar the pipes, and is a lot cheaper than snakes of equal length: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085WJ4GWG

Running your own snake camera is also super cheap, but I would recommend having a plumber do it. They usually have a more expensive camera with a locator ($800+ if you buy it yourself). Not to mention, owning your own means having to clean it afterward.

I made a longer post above that elaborates on this, but yes, you can get a 100FT snake camera for about $70.

However, it won't come with a locator so you won't know exactly where your issue is. A professional camera with a locator is about $1000.

For people complaining about clogs...if you're certain it's organic in nature use the lye crystals. They're dirt cheap and work as well or better than the fancy expensive stuff.

I went through a bunch of drain covers and some get too clogged.
The one linked below rises-up just enough (and spreads out) to block hair without becoming a block itself. Its also weighty enough to stay put. This was heads and shoulders above many other drain screens I used. It feels tough and looks nice - not the usual knock-off garbage made under a dozen names

Mesh strainer works the best, you just have to clean it out once every few days since it catches a lot of stuff.

It works well if your clog is from grease buildup or proteins (yes, gents, this can cause clogs). For hair, it would take too long to break down.

But for added effect, you can get one of those drain bladders that connects to the garden hose and modify it to create a temporary blockage at your cleanout.

This should let you soak the line in lye, rather than have most of it run straight down the drain.

This is a stopper and strainer in one.

If you have someone who takes baths and forgets to put the strainer back, it solves that issue.

I bought a cheap drain snake camera to try to use, and I couldn't get far in the drain or make heads or tails more often then being useful. I snaked it in tub once to be very confused by what I was seeing till it came out the overflow drain below the spicket.

but I bought a simple metal drain snake at Walmart, and I have used it to keep that tub clear since. I also used it to clear out the lint from air conditioner condensation drain, since I forget to bleach it at times...

Bought 3. Really annoying how you can not order more than 1 set per order.

With a family with very thick hair, 2 of them being ladies i literally have to clean out the SS tub hair shroom catcher every day. Probably have saved me a ton of unwanted drainage issues/money..these things are worth every penny.
