Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.

for those new to M deals.

suggest

read wiki

lots of good info

trust me

here is sample:

To have the phone unlock automatically in 180 days (6 months)

You need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
You do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service 180 days

the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
both apple and android

Most people get the 1 month service.
Then simply place phone in a drawer .
wait 6 months.

The sim can be left in phone or stored safely.
It does not matter, as long as you DO NOT THROW AWAY THE SIM until you get a confirmed unlock

Phone should/will unlock in ~180 days + 6 -10 days.

best chance of success as follows:
During the ~6 month wait.
YOU can use as wifi device.
keep sim in phone.
when getting near the 180 day , have phone connected to wi-fi.
Try to unlock the device, once 1-2 days from day 180 onwards.

- None of us knows when Metro is going to close this unofficial loophole, .
-However this has been in effect with Metro phone deals for last ~4-5 years

Exercise your own judgement,

The chipset is on par with the 2 year old A52s

Not a good deal at $90 imo

Good deal at $60ish though
$30 makes a difference?

"According to the AnTuTu benchmark, the Samsung Galaxy A54 is about 53% faster than the Galaxy A52, and only 16% slower than the Galaxy S21 Ultra."

I wouldn't call 53% faster on par.

that paper specs, when you have one in hand and run Antutu, you will see the SoC performance loses 99% Android phones in the world
They benchmarked it in the link I provided. It did 13.5k on PCMark , which is around the same as the S22 that does around 13k.

Of course it'll score lower on Antutu since the gpu performance usually accounts for a big part of the score. 520k total isn't exactly horrible though when the gpu score is only 150k. That's fine for a mid-lower end phone if you don't game on it.

Basically a rebranded S21fe with weaker Exynox SoC, plus better battery and added SD slot, with minor aesthetic changes.
The A54 5G?

The S21 FE 5G is much better than this A54 5G, even if you only include having wireless charging and optical zoom, two things that make a big difference with daily use. Well worth the extra $50 to bump up to the S21 FE instead of the A54 5G.

The A54 5G is more like a mild upgrade from the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G.

store told me I must pay taxes on the MSRP of the phone which comes out to be $30+ (that is normal correct?), also need to pay $20 activation fee where as internet order doens't? and lastly, i need to purchase the $60 plan not the $40, the $60 plan includes hotspot (is that right? only $60 qualifies?) At least a couple stores all told me the same thing.
that's what happened to me when i got the oneplus n20, except the $60 plan part. wish i knew about going to the corporate store.

Sounds like we have very different daily lives. I have an S21+ which I never charge wireless. Tried a couple time with several chargers including the original Samsung wirless charger, and it was just so slow. They also say that it wears the battery down.
There are certain situations where optical zoom may come in handy, but I wouldn't call that a daily occurance for me.
Battery life however, is truly a daily concern. A long time concern is also the storage; if you think about being limited to 128gb forever on a phone with a 4k camera, you'll be inclined to think twice.
I'd argue that A54 to S21fe is an even milder upgrade. I agree that it's not an easy, clear-cut choice, and $50 more almost sounds worth it. But I'm also counting the 6-month wait and the unlocking uncertainty.

128gb snapdragon is not an issue for the vast majority of people. We use cloud and rarely need anything stored on the phone. Als0 The s21fe will also be faster and overall better in every way except battery life and number of updates.

the current street value of a54 may be more than s21 fe, but the s21 is almost certainly objectively better. after a couple months i expect the a54 prices to drop like a rock as well to the same levels as s21. also s21 fe has better trade in value typically.

Let's compare it to the ACTUAL phone I am comparing it to.

Antutu scores:
A52s 5G: 547K
a54: 522k

Shame. It seems it's a well built phone, it's just that Samsung's insistent on selling their customers slow phones for some reason.

Nice deal.
The non-US version has 8GB RAM. I believe other than that, the rest of hardware is the same.

There appears to be a miscommunication between aintaboutdislife and vivecsotha. One talks about the A52 5G while one talks about the A52s 5G. They're two different phones.

My Moto Stylus 5G not unlocked after 6 months with 1 month of active service. Just want to let you know.

Edit: It's been 5 months only. I will update after 1 month.
