i mean with all due respect, how poor does one have to be to need to wait half a year to use a phone?
I'm not poor. I use my phone at home on WiFi, which is most of the time, for 6 months. And use my old phone for when I go out, which is usually only a few hours on a few days a week (work from home). You can't "have" money if you spend it all.

Why am I seeing $49.99 instead of $90 like op mentioned after I clicked the link?

Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.

Anyone done this in store? Their site says a $40+ plan is required for online and $65+ plan is required for in store. So if I do it in store I'll have to get a $65 plan?

They will require the $60 plan plus activation fee, around $20 , also they may try to charge taxes on the original MSRP price of the phone

It's not $90 it's $50 plus the $45 first month which won't be unlimited it will be 10 gbs plus the taxes on full price of phone so around 35 bucks. It's more like $120 plus $25 activation fee

I have a Pixel 6a, Samsung A51, S22, and S23. I'm OK with the Pixel 6a's performance, but to me its screen and colors just look "dull" compared to those of the Samsung phones. I've tried changing its brightness and colors, but couldn't get them to match the Samsungs.

Yesterday I ordered the Metro A54 as a future replacement for my wife's A50. I could've bought for her the S21 FE, but she's not very careful with her phones, already dropped and cracked a Samsung A10e and her current A50. If she breaks the A54, it's only $90 vs $140 for the FE. Also, she takes a lot of photos of flowers, gardens, and keep them on her phone. The ability to use a high-capacity microSD card with the A54 is an advantage over the fixed storage of the FE.

It's $90 for online orders only, plus taxes, it was $94.11 for me, if you go to store it's a different story

$50 for the phone plus $40 for one month of service equals $90

Not poor, but why pay $300 for something you can get for $90?

The A54 has much better battery life,...(snip) When one gets a Pixel 6a or a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, one immediately notice a big hit on the battery life compared to my other phones like the Samsung A71 5G. ..(snip)

Sounds like we have very different daily lives. I have an S21+ which I never charge wireless. Tried a couple time with several chargers including the original Samsung wirless charger, and it was just so slow. They also say that it wears the battery down.
There are certain situations where optical zoom may come in handy, but I wouldn't call that a daily occurance for me.
Battery life however, is truly a daily concern. ..(snip) .
Having upgraded through many phones, latest was from S22 to S23U, wireless charging is a game changer, much like cloud storage is for space. Using a cheap $9 wireless stand charger from Best Buys, and I simply set the phone on the stand next to me occasionally during the day. Phone never has to have the USB cord connected to charge, unless driving, which is connected for AA anyway. Storage is a non issue as well, with Google Drive and occasionally using a tiny USB Fit drive (not by need). Of course the battery usage is more going from A to S series, much like going from a 4 cyl turbo to a V8 car uses more gas. Both the A54 and S21Fe have same 25w fast charge compatibility, and get to 50% charge in about 30 minutes. The S21 FE also was 15w wireless charge ability, as well as reverse charge, that allows the phone itself to wirelessly charge other devices. Last of all, wireless charging allows you to add a battery charger type case to your phone, so for example, you can add a $30 case with 5000mAh battery built in, and double your usage time

Beside wireless charging, 3x optical zoom is also something that once you use it frequently, hard to not have it, and the number 1 reason I upgraded from S22 to S23U was the move from 3x to 10x optical zoom..

For me, these current Samsung deals are an upgrade from the wife's free T-Mobile Samsung A 32 5G. While the A series is noticeable step down from the S series, they have come a long way to shrink the gap. Still, when comparing the A32, A 54 and S21 FE, the biggest upgrade for the money value is the jump from A32 to S21 FE. The A54 is a great phone for most people that don't care as much for these extra features, and a steal at $90.

Also, 6 months locked is not as bad as it seems, since you can still use the phone with wifi during that time. Add google voice number and good to go.
