You really think giant corporations that buy thousands of these things are idiots and know less than you?

These comments seem to be from guys who had a consumer 300GB Seagate drive fail 20 years ago without backing it up.
If you want to be thorough run badblocks on the drives.

Of course they are louder than blues... They're enterprise drives while blues are standard consumer drives.

After all the recent recertified HDD deals, finally pulled the trigger on these drives. Took around 5-6 days to receive. Two drives showed 15 power on hours under SMART. Someone wrote SMART can be rewritten. Passed long tests with Seatools. First time buying recertified drives. For the fun of it i checked a "NEW" Seagate 4tb drive i bought laste year from EBAY, and this "new" drive had 756 power on hours.... not very happy about this.

Any other tests I should run on the X18s?

Would definitely buy a few but think they are all loud compare wd blue. Need a few quiet ones. Capacity and price better than the 8tb blue I brought.

I recently bought 2. I know the S.M.A.R.T. data is removed prior to selling but I did several chkdsk checks and all came up good. Put them on my TRUENAS and did another long test and were good. Cosmetically I couldn't even find a microscopic scratch or fingerprint that would say it was even used at all. I get it though that they were probably used once and taken out of the packaging to be installed and then never touched before it was refurbished.

You're telling me people park PT Cruisers in areas where the catalytic converters get stolen?

Does nobody have respect for the wood paneling on the doors?

Chkdsk only checks the drives logical disk structure (file system), it doesn't check the physical drive at all, its not the right test to run in this situation.

Enterprise drives like these are often installed in storage chassis in bulk, its a easy/simply process and I wouldn't expect to see any scratches or signs of wear but you can't use that to determine how many hours it has been used.

I bought 2 of these (12TB Exos x16) from this seller in February for the same price, very happy so far. I don't think I've ever seen a shipped item more securely packed, which was great.
