Lotta gel disciples here. Sorry but please don't carry gel unless it's windy that day. Gel travels slower, can be seen coming, doesn't run down into the attackers eyes, and can be easily scraped away & used against you. It's only effective if you bullseye the attacker immediately, which is harder than it sounds in an emergency. You'll be hard pressed to find cops or prison guards who use gel

Stream is better unless you are in a very windy environment. Yes, there always is some blowback—windy or not—but that's just an inherent flaw with pepper spray. Carry a sudocon wipe if it really worries you. Stream is harder to see coming, has a reasonable spread, and if you hit the attackers hair/forehead it will run down into their eyes, nose and mouth—getting past eyeglasses/sunglasses. You instinctively have a sense of how stream trajectory works since you have a lifetime of using water nozzles, water toys and the stream function on bottles of clorox and the like. Gel travels differently and it's hard to find inert versions for practice.

So does this mean gel is worthless? No! Get both stream and gel. Carry stream most days, and switch out to gel when it's windy. Put a sudocon wipe in your wallet in case of blowback, and if you're asthmatic carry your inhaler or a couple tiny bronkaid tablets

edit: Also these keychain models are the bare minimum. They're very low-pressure and "25 shots" is outrageously optimistic. A 2 oz+ sized can from Fox Labs or Sabre is recommended. unfortunately women's clothing isn't very compatible with a larger can and puts many users at a disadvantage.

Finally, check the exp date on your model. These lose pressure over time. If you've ever used a can before, swap it out for a new one. not just for pressure and the fluid but also because nozzles can clog up, especially the little keychain models

I use them to freshen my breath before I go to work. A spray to the eyes also works well for long roadtrips when falling asleep

I buy them for my two kids, wife and mother-in-law. Everybody lost at least one already so this is a great deal to get more.

Yes! Pepper gel isn't going to blow back into your face like the pepper spray.

Reading through the ratings, the lowest ones mention defective units that break or don't spray. The higher ratings mention "feeling safer" but no actual experiences with using it against an aggressor or attacker. I'd like to see real testimonials from those it actually saved.

A spray up the nostrils will also produce enough mucus to clear the sinuses from pollen and allergens.

I second the pepper gel, not only it won't blow back on your face, you also are not going to walk into the cloud of pepper Incase you decided to move forward while spraying.
Also the gel has a longer range.

You need to give them proper training and instruction on usings ,I know of numinous people being hospitalized for treatment because of spray blowing back into face

Pepper spray is brutal. I've interviewed people who said they wish they would have been tased. So there's that. But keep in mind that wind and other variables might make it ineffective or a complete disaster.
