Ugh. I'm about to be heading on a vacation and thought this might be cool to take along - but after reading the reviews, I recon I will pass and look for another option... Seems like almost every review, regardless of whether they ultimately like or dislike the camera/printer, cites the same issues - alignment issues on print, and blurry pictures taken by actual camera.

The tl;dr from the reviews largely state this makes a great printer when printing from your phone, but that it's not a great camera that prints pictures you take on the camera.

FWIW, as someone who traveled with an Instax camera and the film... having the TSA agents hand-check the camera and film at security was a tedious process. They hated that they had to step away, rub my lil camera down with some pad, check the film, etc. It wasn't worth it for the few pics I actually ended up taking.

If you're not flying, then none of this matters, of course!

I'm buying it as a camera printer. Prints are much cheaper than the Instax.

After reading the reviews for this camera/printer bundle, I decided to get the Kodak Mini 2 Retro 4-Pass (2.1" x 3.4") printer bundle with 68 sheets instead for $90: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FSXD12D/

Online reviews rate the Kodak dye-sub 4-pass prints very highly--better than Zink prints (at an equivalent, if not lower cost), and comparable, if not better than the Fuji instant Instax prints (that cost double).

The reason for not paying more for this larger Mini Shot 3 camera/printer is that the camera is reviewed by most as not being very good, and it is best to print from your phone photos. The larger size is a concern.

Since I usually photograph using a rectangular format, the 2x3 ratio of the Mini 2 Retro fits better with what I want to print out. The battery life of the Mini 2 Retro printer is rated much longer (double or more) than that of the Mini Shot 3 camera/printer (which many complain can only print fewer than 10 prints per charge).

The 2x3 format sheets seems regularly to sell (as seen in CCC) for about $18 for 60 prints: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086KST5K5

EDIT: The 3"x3" sheets that fit the Mini Shot 3 in the OP's deal is also available in a 60-pack for $18: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084MKLY8D/

RE: hand-checking Instax cameras/film. This is a concern since the Instax film may be affected by airport X-Ray machines, since it is a film, unlike the Kodak 4Pass sheets or Zink sheets, which are not as sensitive to radiation.

thats right. these cartridges arent any film. they are just sub ribbon printed on the regular photo paper. so there is no need for hand check in.

reviews arent very good. especially the camera cant even sense the right OEM cartridges.

My solution to this was to teach my daughter to process them at Costco. Now that they don't really do photos she sends them to Walmart @0.25 a 4x6 and ready in a hour. To me it's a no brainer when compared to something like this package and quality.

I fully understand she can't had them out directly but it is a sacrifice she is willing to make for quality and price.

Tempted to get this for my mom for mothers day, she always likes to have physical photos and they are cheap enough at $18 for 60pack to be able to take a lot of pics.

Reviews are making me rethink this, but overall most people like the camera it seems.

so why wouldnt i get the larger print size option in the OP for $10 more? the extra inch seems to be more useful than the battery charge (given print cost is same).

he already mentioned them. he prefered rectangular size and better (double) battery life. and the smaller printer size.

More important for me is the 2:3 aspect ratio of the print size, rather than the total area of the print. I normally photograph in that ratio, so if I frame a photo in that ratio, and then try to print it as a 3:3 ratio, I would lose a significant part of the photo (objects at the edges would be cropped out), or the photo would eventually be shrunk into a 2"x3" size anyway to get everything I want in the square photo.

That, and the much smaller size of the Mini 2 Retro printer (3x5x1 inch), versus the 3x3" print camera, which weighs a pound (not sure of the dimensions, but it could be 5"x5"x1.5"), I think. The smaller Mini 2 Retro printer is more likely to fit in a pocket.

If you shoot square photos, then get the 3x3 camera. For horizontals, verticals, the Mini 2 Retro may better fit your framing. The battery issue is not insignificant, as the larger size seems to mean fewer prints per charge, which is a common complaint for the 3"x3" camera with observations you'll get fewer than 10 prints before needing to recharge.

EDIT: I also own the Polaroid Zink camera/printer, but found the larger size of that camera, as well as the camera's poor performance as not satisfactory. I also have the Canon Ivy Zink printer and much prefer its smaller size and ease of printing from a phone. I just ordered the Kodak Mini 2 Retro because of the many reviews comparing its print quality to other dye-sub as well as Zink prints.

I also did read the negative reviews for the Kodak 4Pass cartridges with some having alignmemnt problems--which is an issue with any dye-sub printer that requires teh print to repeatedly go back and forth within the printer.

This happened to us coming back from Mexico from a destination wedding as photographers. We verified that they would allow us to bring film back and they would not x-ray well ahead of the trip, but we were refused upon actually leaving Mexico and four rolls of film went through after we pleaded for them not to. Luckily the majority of photos of the event were digital but all of the film photos were unusable and realistically there were definitely shots that weren't replicated with the other equipment.

reviews complain about quality of the pictures. I do not expect magic, but they all look like broken inject printer.

Same going to pass after reading reviews.

Better to just print at Costco or something with pictures from your phone, way higher quality.
