I probably would have gave it a go and tried it out. Though I'm not going to order a hotsauce that has Red #40 on their ingredient list.... Hot sauce should be red enough on it's own.

Most hot sauces are either water or vinegar based. Sweet and sour sauces are mainly comprised of water and sugar.

Chamoy is more sweet than hot. It's more akin to a sweet and sour sauce than a typical hot sauce.

Yeah, I'm intrigued by how people rave over it, but the ingredient list isn't that appetizing: Water, Iodized Salt, Citric Acid, Modified Starch, Dried Chili Pepper, Acetic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Flavoring Extracts, Sodium Erythorbate (as Antioxidant), Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate (as Preservatives) and FD&C Red 40. Against my better judgement and out of curiosity, I'm in for one.

So you're linking an article that is stating the the lead level of 4 Mexican candies tested before has dropped since the last time, and this chamoy sauce wasn't even tested. Stop saying all Mexican candy/product has lead.

"None of the candy brands had a mean lead concentrations exceeding the US FDA recommended maximum level of 0.1 ppm (in Mexico there are no official regulations for lead concentrations in candy). However, 2 candy units, a Miguelito chili powder and a Rockaleta Junior lollipop had lead concentrations of 0.1 ppm."

Great price. Not to hijack, (but) the G Hughes Orange Ginger is really good on salmon with added korean gochugaru pepper flakes mixed in. Sugar Free, simple ingredients. Squeeze some lemon on top, sliced red pepper/onions stir fried with lime juice, and some rice. Almost makes pizza seem dull. Almost.

- I am not an employee; I just really liked the product after first try. The other really good one, but not sugar free is the Iron Chef Sauce & Glaze, Sesame Garlic - super simple ingredients. Great on diced chicken with a little wasabi powder mixed in.

This isn't really a hot sauce and the bottles are huge.

I enjoy all their stuff. It's a good line of products for people who don't want to add a ton of sugar to stuff. Their cluckn chicken dipping sauce is a staple here.

Where I'm from chamoy is very popular, however the stuff they sell in stores is very sweet, (as another poster said, more like sweet and sour with a little spice). This has no sweetener on the ingredient list, rather branded as "bittersweet". Still, it's very interesting range of condiments, I would think of it less as a hot sauce and more of a sort of condiment of it's own. Very good on fruit

How good is this brand? Usually I buy the Taijin brand at the grocery store.

If you're buying this because you're expecting some type of hot sauce, you're gonna have a bad time. This is a spicy candy topping more than anything. There's even tiny plastic bottles that they sell (or used to sell?) that are meant to be consumed as a candy treat.

I pour this over shaved ice and it makes a really good spicy snow cone. That's about all I use it for. Sometimes I may pour it on chips, but I really prefer Tapatio or Valentina hot sauce for that. Again, I wouldn't really consider this "hot sauce".

Still expensive, these should be $1 and they are for your chips. It's not a hot sauce.

If you live close to an area with a Latino population, go to the grocery stores (American ones too). These sell for about $2.50 and $3.50. I was lucky enough to get a different Chamoy brand on sale for $1.50
