It's usually $55 full price on the Ambernic site, resellers sometimes import it from China and ship it from the US for a premium. $44 after tax seems like a good deal if it's the same product and arrives in one piece.
This is one of the better newer options if you want to play anything from PS1 or earlier. The battery and screen are really good and there's an aftermarket OS called Garlic that adds a lot of functionality and fixes the bad stock OS.
The main competitor is the Miyoo mini plus, but that's still hard to find in stock. This deal matches the purple gameboy color better than the miyoo.

*The vertical gameboy form factor was more preferable to me
*It's 4:3 so no black bars on the sides, I've noticed this is a big detractor for snes games on 3ds
*It can do save states which vita cannot do, and states lets you switch between games very easily and quickly
*It can go to sleep or power off quickly and save your spot which is ideal for me as I play before bed. With the vita there's memory and battery concerns if you don't exit adrenaline before you sleep the unit
*It has fast forward, a big plus for jrpgs
- rg35xx is a big bigger, hence is more comfortable to hold
- sound is better
- dpad is inaccurate and triggers the diagonals often
- had some problems with the battery initially and had to disconnect it fully for a while, since then it is working fine
- OS is not good, need to install garlic os
Overall great device for the price and if the dpad was better, I'd prefer it over the Miyoo mini plus.
