Unlike sam's, Costco registers your driver licence. You can't swap emails and credit cards to dodge the 18 month new customer requirement.

I agree, my local Costco is notorious that even if you're not a member for 18 months, they said my info is still exists in their computer and refused to honor any discounted membership and also once said I can't join a family member living in the same address because my relatives last name is different from mine. My local Costco enforces their own crazy rules and I told them to kiss my back and went to local Sam's which is very friendly and also as a premier member get to enjoy unlimited order online and have curbside pickup without going to the club, which is really useful during winter months.

sounds like a good deal, but after checking their website, they should be welcoming new customers to shop for free. Just like Sam's, not really much of anything special or even very good values.

I also agree Costco has slowly gone downhill from their hayday. The pandemic changed them for the worse.

The worn out "Costco breaks even on items" is not true. They have quite a good cushion on a good amount of items. Don't feel like you are getting the "cost to them" treatment. They make good money.

I've been very hesitant to get another Costco membership after the way I was treated by customer service at a local store. I had an HP AIO business model printer that would not connect to my network, and HP knew that it was an issue with that particular series of AIO printers. Their solution was to hardwire it. I needed a wireless connection. So, I returned the printer to Costco, and the person behind the counter acted like I was a criminal, and was very shitty towards me. I got my refund after being belittled and made to feel like garbage. I never returned to Costco after that.
Sam's, OTOH, has always treated me very well and like a valued customer. I've never had issues getting discounted memberships, gift cards, etc. And, returns are easy, and handled well, without issue. Never any problems. I'm a loyal Sam's customer.
