Unless cost is really prohibitive, the Callaway Edge package at Costco is far far superior in terms of what you get compared to this set. Even at this price point, you are going to find yourself with a set of clubs that you will soon grow out of.
This is not actually a Callaway set of clubs made by Callaway, this is a product made in a different factory that Callaway badge for the low end entry.
Ultimately golf costs $ to buy the equipment but if you just want to test the waters with a low $ entry point you are better off buying a single used high iron and a putter to see if you get into the game on the driving range and putting green, before investing in the Edge or better.
Another better option is Decathlon Inesis 9 club package which retails for $200-250 without a bag.

I agree, just spend a little more and go with the edge set if you plan on getting into golf, even casually

Not sure almost 150% more ($250 -> $600) is a "little" more. $350 is a pretty big chunk of money. For someone like me who wanted to try out golf without spending a pile of money, the then-current Strata set was perfect for me. Once I caught the bug, I started getting fit appropriately. Had I not enjoyed it, being down $250 rather than $600 was WAY more tolerable. Since I went the other way, $250 was a great investment plus I have a spare set if someone visits and wants to play a round without having to rent a set.

1) Edge package has resell value, which Strata really doesn't.
2) If $350 is a significant amount of money, golf probably isn't realistically the right sport/passtime. Green fees could easily be $100 a round, shoes are probably $100, an hours worth of balls at the range is probably $50, lessons are probably $100 a pop. It's not an accessable sport unfortunately.
3) Glad the Strata clubs worked out, if I was starting again or had a friend who was starting and not sure if s/he was interested I would buy a used iron and a putter for $50 from FB Marketplace or CL
Echoing others, the Edge set at Costco is a remarkable deal. At this price point you're 10x better off finding a good local shop that sells used like Play it Again Sports and picking up used gear.

It doesn't even come with a bag at that price nor 3-5 irons. That's a lot of spend to test the waters. Cheap set was fine for me (still is but I don't play a lot).

This is almost exactly the same for bicycles, except probably go to a bike shop.

It is definitely so with most gear - the athlete not the gear. Start very simply and if you spend the time and develop, then spend the money on nicer stuff if you can take advantage of and enjoy it.

Bro gatekeeping golf lmfao, this set is just fine for someone to familiarize themselves with each club. Someone starting out doesn't need golf shoes, or a trainer. Green fees on smaller courses are not that much plus you can split with friends. It's an accessible sport if you're not being gatekept by snobs lol
