I've got ten of these. A few user notes on startup:

Follow the instructions. It's specific.

Use potting MIX not SOIL.

The watering tube goes in a particular corner, and the screen that goes over the bottom has a defined orientation.

Mix will get into the clean water reservoir and you'll have to clear the drain holes. When filling the planter up (every few days), do it gently to try and avoid stirring up too much debris.

There have been complaints about the wheels breaking the tub while being moved. My experience is to make sure those wheels are pushed all the way into the holes, and you won't have any problems, so long as the drunk frat guys from the corner bar don't decide to play Mario Cart the Home Game with your planters on their way past your house. Grr.

Probably wouldn't be advertised as a grow box if it wasn't...

Read the website description.

"The resin used in this product is a food safe High Density Polyethylene. It is chemically inactive, BPA free and Phthalate free and is perfectly safe for growing edible garden vegetables. The resin also includes chemically inert UV additives to prevent long term degradation from direct sunlight."

There are two vent holes on the side of the planter. When water stars flowing out of those holes your water has hit that level. There is a weed barrier that covers the top, which also helps with evaporative loss of water. The seedlings tend to get the water by a wicking process, but will eventually grow down into the water reservoir level.

How does water get above the aeration pocket? Seems like it would never reach the dirt

From looking at it it seems like an outdoor hydroponics setup with soil as the substrate. I'm wondering if you could use water nutrients instead of soil fertilizers once the roots get down there.

I improvised something like this in college with a plastic tub from Walmart for about $3. I drilled holes at the bottom for drainage and grew fantastic peppers!

Mine all disintegrated from the sun and possibility the weight. Wheels go first. Thinking of maybe shoving some pressure treated 2/4 under it

If you go to the manufacture's web site, there is a variation on this design specifically for hydroponics.

You might be able to adapt this product for hydroponics using the description on their web site.

Note that this is a repost although the initial post didn't get much traction. I purchased on a few weeks ago and recently planted a few tomatoes in it. I'm still trying to figure out how to install a trellis.

We are 100% done buying plants from Home Deport. They always and I mean always, die.
We promised ourselves to never buy again after last year, but caved a couple weeks ago because HD is so close. But here it is not two weeks later and those HD plants are crapping out.
Similar plants in same locations and conditions bought from a reputable nursery due fine.
