Using canister mostly hard floor, upright (small ball) for carpet.
My upright is smaller version on their lineup, but it is still stronger than canister.
But I like how the canister one is easier to use for narrow spaces, corners and crevices. For the upright model, it is hard to use it in some occasions like vacuuming my keyboard, tight spaces, tables. Yes it does have the hose option, but it's not as long, and sometimes I need to pick up the vacuum in order to reach for the dust. Maybe larger models have longer hose? idk. Canister is easier for these cases where I need to vacuum tight spaces, on tables and when vacuuming small things.
However, if I had to choose one, I will choose the upright model.
