it's a feature, not a bug.

not surprising, as demand for cpus (and pcs in general) are way down. not to mention all the bad press the x3d chips have been getting (well, generally the motherboard companies' fault, but one would also hesitate buying a x3d chip at this point). there was a 7700x/mobo/ram deal for $370ish not too long ago, which goes to show not many will spend $450 on just a cpu right now.

while there are quite a few tempting deals, i imagine there are also plenty others like me that overspent during the pandemic on a build and would like to get my money's worth out of it. upgrading when it's not absolutely necessary just feels like giving the greedy companies more money and enabling their price gouging.

These will fry the socket if the users overclocks the memory beyond reason ( and specs).
This is now fixed by applying a CPU patch.

if you are staying within specs, you are fine anyway.

I have Asus mobo. What should I do now? Does it have a bios version that I need to worry about?

Don't overclock. Don't run PBO. Review the bios available for your motherboard. Install the latest bios that is not a beta build.

Asus makes tons of boards. Which one do you have?

Just to be CLEAR. The ASUS motherboard in question costs 700$ that is having the issues. I don't think there's anyone here using one of those high end motherboards. I bet you one of their mid range boards will be just fine and not have a single issue

If it's past 30 days return, there is nothing you can do, so keep enjoying using it.

Install the lone available beta bios and update whenever a new one is available and necessary. Keep using expo but monitor voltages with hwinfo to make sure it is no more than 1.3(4) volts. Check cpu and mobo around the six months mark for degradation (if you feel like it), then again right before the mobo warranty is up, which I think it's one year. Warranty if you discover damages to either or both cpu and mobo. If this becomes a widespread problem for Asus sometime later, you will have more recourse. Don't waste more money buying a different brand AMD motherboard or switching to Intel.
