Absolute drivel, and likely ill-intentioned misinformation. Even the 8GB model is more than enough for lots more than "web browsing and basic office work"; this 16GB is good enough for the large majority of power users.

Great deal! For those of us who prefer to "bring their own storage," the 16GB/256GB would have been better (assuming the price would have been proportionately lower), but at this price it's fine and allows you to use it right away w/o needing to worry about an external storage solution right away.

I'm typing this on my $500 base M2 purchased from Costco last month (currently hooked up to two 27" 1440 displays). I'm a looong time PC user (the last time I touched a mac was in the 90's). The learning curve to MacOS was a bit rough, but I'm slowly getting used to the new OS. It's hard to believe so much power is packed into such a small (and cheap) package.

This thing will stream 4k (2x speed) YouTube without a single stutter. It is silent, despite the active cooling.

I'm almost surely going to pick up a second unit during Costco's sale. I'll probably have one unit permanently tied to my TV (for YouTube, Steam, CloneHero, Chrome, etc). And another in my office. For my office computer, I'm tempted to upgrade to the "Pro" model, but I'm likely deluding myself that I need the extra power relative to the $500 base.

https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-com...ple-m1-max this comparison shows m2pro is faster in both single core and multi core benchmark tests, it does note: Advantages of Apple M1 Max
Supports up to 64 GB LPDDR5-6400 RAM
Around 204.8 GB/s (100%) higher theoretical memory bandwidth, which I imagine would help with graphics /video software such as Adobe Creative Suite?
I can't comment on "nanoreview" because there's no technical information on that site; it's made by a bot, IMHO, and worth about as much.

That said, the Studio is about the same (multicore) CPU speed as the LOW END ($1099-$1299) M2 Pro. It is slower (CPU, MC) than the M2 Pro HIGH END, which is what most of the review sites reviewed, and what most benchmarks state. It's important that people understand that difference - it involves 2 M2 CPU cores, so it's pretty significant. But it also means the M2 Pro in the comparison is at $1699-ish, not $1099.

The GPU on the M1 Max walks all over the M2 Pro, in both low and high spec versions, and having more RAM thruput helps too.

That said, the M2 Pro Single-core speed is perhaps 20% faster, so for day to day, user interface, Safari, Chrome things, it's that much faster.

Windows ecosystem is far superior but macos is better for developers because it's based off of Unix and maybe also better for video editors
You do know that MacOS is based on Mach, a UNIX kernel, right?

Now I am debating whether to return my 299 m1 Mac mini to Costco. Haven't even opened it yet.
shoot, all of this tech creep when no one is going to use the specs. I will BUY your $300 mack mini from you... I could not find one. Now I am here thinking of buying this pro m2, but, that base m1 would be all i would need a mac for... But since I cannot find a $300, I might as well buy this one.
