Virtual Credit Cards

I am sure this has been discussed previously, but I couldn't find it in the search options.

I know now, that certain credit cards have an option of creating a card # and name that is basically a 'place holder'. It doesn't have any money behind it. My two cards do not have this option. Chase and Amex do have it.
That is what I am looking for, as I wanted to side load Google Play on my Kindle tablet, and now you have to register with a credit card to use those files. Before, you only had to register on the websites. I do not like the idea of using my real card for just this purpose.

Ideas, suggestions would be appreciated.

As far as I know Chase and Amex do *not* have a virtual credit card feature. Discover and Bank of America both used to but discontinued them. Currently CitiBank is the only card issuer I'm aware of that still has a virtual credit card number capability. I use it all the time - pretty much for any online or over the phone purchase that isn't Amazon.

I do think that Chase still does it for some tiers of their card.
I will follow through with your CitiBank suggestion.

I use Privacy for this purpose. You could create cards and set spending limits on them, either recurring limits or one time use limit. You also earn money back on purchases that will apply to your next Privacy card use.

I checked out Privacy.com and was going to sign up, but it looks like you have to link a bank account to fund the virtual cards they generate? (vs linking a credit card like you might do with PayPal, for example)

I'd be more or less ok giving privacy.com bank account info, but you'd lose out on the cashback from your regular credit card (and also the benefit of deferred payment via credit card) ....and any purchase protections your credit card offers (admittedly not as common as it used to be, and non-existent on the Citi Double Cashback card as of 2019 Frown )

Get real, all the coughing up blood was disgusting! Besides, I was pulling for Johnny Ringo anyway. Laughed out loud when Bill Paxton bought it.
