I saw that this had an extra $14 coupon as well as 20% off of your "first" S&S, which brought my total price down to ~$38 . This is a good deal, especially considering the "MSRP" is now almost $70 a bag!

YMMV on the coupons. I order a bag of this monthly, so it is worth it to check , even if you clipped this coupon before.

Enjoy!

For everyone commenting on the "low" protein, veterinarians recommend that dogs eat food that is between 18-25% protein content, and up to 30% for growing puppies.
This is not protein powder for body builders where you are concerned that your money is paying for sugars and fillers. This is whole nutrition for a canine diet.
4.5 rating of DFA, reads like it's pretty healthy: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/do...5-mix-dry/

Only 24% protein, and let's face it, the oatmeal is just a filler.

24-22% protein based on variety. Too little protein. Everything else will pass right through. Get your shovels ready. No thanks

My dogs are always properly solid on #2 with this food and they poop the normal rate. No major issues from what we can tell in the years I've been feeding them this brand.

Can you share a source for the protein percentage recommendations? I mean like an article or paper.

Oatmeal has protein and fiber. It promoted regular and easy poops, which is good for you and your dog.

Here's an article I found by a DVM written on PetMD that has a pretty thorough breakdown of the needs of an average canine diet as well as references to the AAFCO recommendations. Hopefully that provides what you're looking for

My vet told me to provide a high protein diet to my older dog in order to keep his weight under control, essentially reducing the carbs. I aim for 28%.

I also note that a lot of these foods are lacking a full suite of vitamins and minerals. This means that it's not a good idea to only feed this stuff. This food, for example, only mentions vitamins A and E. What about B, C, D, K...?

And of course, a lot of these brands will adjust their recipes depending on the price of raw materials, so what was a great food at one point might not be now. I try to make sense of the ingredients and nutritional information to avoid be hoodwinked.
