Saying you're an early adopter is a stretch if you're only on year 3. You must be doing something wrong if you're having battery issues already . I am on year 7 and my batteries degraded to like 50%. Still using all my original batteries the came with the tools.

I am an early EGO adopter (got them when Home Depot had the contract with them). I have 5 of their tools and 4 of their batteries. I am on year 3 and all my batteries are turning into paperweights. My 5ah hold like 30% of their original charge, and my 2.5ah literally give me 15 minutes or less on like my leaf blower.

The tools work great. The convenience of electric is super. But I am mad I am going to have to drop $500 already on some new batteries. There is no way I would even come close to $500 of gas at this point.

I'm not saying don't go electric/EGO, just be aware that you will be replacing these batteries MUCH FASTER than you anticipate. Don't go electric because you think it will be cheaper in the long run - it won't be.

I don't the the lone batteries are really a deal unless you already have all the tools you want? You can get the 765 blower for $300 with a 5ah battery for example, and that blower is pretty beast. Or a 650 blower for 220 or so.

I don't need any more ego tools. Bare battery works for me. TU.

I have no experience with this capacity, but at least for the lower capacity ones over heating is a problem.

To give some background - I have a 7.5Ah battery that came with my Ego mower, and three 2.5Ah batteries that came with various tools. I have a big lawn and the 7.5Ah by itself doesn't suffice. I had figured that the three 2.5Ah batteries combined will give me as much juice as the 7.5Ah. But it's not even close. It's not a problem when the grass is short and dry. But if the grass is even slightly wet or even slightly tall, all three 2.5Ah batteries overheat extremely fast on the mower. I barely make one back and forth lap on the lawn that the lower capacity batteries are done for the day. Once they overheat I have to wait for the larger battery to finish charging again. The point is - I've been disappointed with lower capacity ego batteries. On paper 2.5x3 =7.5. But practically it doesn't work the same way. I don't get 100% more with the 3 batteries - maybe 20% more. I do wonder whether in that respect the 4Ah will truly give 53% of the 7.5Ah battery, or whether its practical capacity will be reduced drastically like the 2.5Ah ones.

It is great for limbing. Not realistic for felling trees and cutting a bunch of rounds to split.

Using low capacity batteries in a mower is a bad idea IMO. You are fully discharging the batteries to 0% on every use. Li batteries have decreased longevity if you deplete them to 0% every time. They also don't like to be charged to 100% and sitting unused for long periods. It's why Ego has the newer high capacity batteries self-discharge to 30% after a month of inactivity.

Don't store or charge the batteries in a hot shed or garage. Don't store them at a freezing temp.

$20 more gets you this battery and a Blower at Ace Hardware. Shipping is ridiculous though, so you need a store nearby for local pickup.

I agree, I'm waiting for the chainsaw and trimmer without the battery deal. Unless I'm missing this I feel I haven't seen those in awhile

Yes! I have the 16" version a model year older, and it's a beast! By far the best chainsaw I've ever owned.

Same... I bought my ego equipment in 2018 and 2019 and my original batteries are still going strong. They don't last quite as long as when they were new but still pretty good. I love all the ego tools but the mower is the weakest tool in the lineup. Looking to try the newer mower with dual blades next.

Interesting fact: I have a handful of batteries of all capacities that are 6 years old and are still going strong. On the other hand, of the two 7.5 Ah that came with my snowblower bought in 2021, one was replaced under warranty after 1 year and the second one just failed and is also being replaced under warranty. That makes me wonder if their battery quality has gotten worse over the years.

I am starting to get really tempted by the aftermarket Ego batteries

$130 for a highly rated (well reviewed) 5.0 Ah battery is… maybe not the worst idea I've ever had.

We'll see.

My 2 and 2.5's still seem to carry a decent charge. (As does my 10.0 that came with my mower.)

2017 was my first EGO tool. I had a 5ah for 2 years that I returned under warranty and got a replacement because of the battery drain issue I was seeing (EGO was good about the return, no issues there). During the pandemic I bought more EGO tools/batteries and now is when I'm seeing the same exact issues of why I RMA'd my first battery. Year 3 is the breaking point when it drops <50% original capacity.

Was I perfect with the battery maintenance? No. I charged it when I needed it. I kept it in the garage. I let it drain to 0% sometimes. I left it on the charger several days in a row. Because I'm a normal human and I'm not going to be a slave to my yard work equipment after working for 3+ hours in 90 degree heat. I'm tired. And this is why I'm speaking as a normal user. If the requirement for the battery is that you must be perfect on maintaining it, people have to know that. My use is what I consider normal use.

I have a ton of other electric tools (Ryobi, DeWalt, Milwaukee) where I've never had any battery drain issues that I've had with EGO.

EGO Tools I own:

Backpack Blower
Handheld Blower
16" Chainsaw
Hedge Trimmer
Weed Whacker
Multi-head edger/tiller

All great tools. Battery - meh. That's all I'm saying.
