The tools work great. The convenience of electric is super. But I am mad I am going to have to drop $500 already on some new batteries. There is no way I would even come close to $500 of gas at this point.
I'm not saying don't go electric/EGO, just be aware that you will be replacing these batteries MUCH FASTER than you anticipate. Don't go electric because you think it will be cheaper in the long run - it won't be.

I have an early model mower and it worked great when I first got it. Now I have some issues:
1) pressing the handle still moves the mower forward, but only at a base speed. The speed gauge no longer works and regardless of what setting it is on (fastest setting down to the slowest), it only moves at the base speed.
2) it isn't doing the best job cutting the grass anymore. Also terrible striping and coverage patterns. I bought a new ego mower blade, the 'high lift' one meant for creating for air flow and lifting the grass into the bag, and it helped a TINY bit, but still not that impressive.
Is my mower battery being old having an impact on performance? Should I consider getting a new mower next year?
Batteries dont like being too hot or too cold. They dont like being over 80% or under 20% charged. If you can make an effort to follow these rules, your batteries will last way longer. I just had a battery totally die this year, but i think i got water into the controller. The other battery still holds at least 80% of its original charge.
$40 more and you get a blower. Going this route and bet I can sell the blower for at least $80 pretty easily.

My lawn takes right around my 9ah worth of batteries for full mow, trim, edge, and blow sidewalks if I don't let it get unruly. We'll round up to 10ah and assume $0.10 per KWH, which is more than I pay (again rounding up). That come out to 0.56 KWH (56V x 10Ah), if you assume 1 KWH due to charger inefficiencies (rounding WAY up) we come out to $0.10 per mow/trim/edge/blow.
I agree the tools & batteries are expensive, but replace when you need new stuff anyways and it's less of a killer. The real benefit is being able to always have a full "tank" to do your work, never having to go to gas station, no storing gas, no extra gas at end of season that sits for months, and (for me) no mixing gas for trimmer/edger!
I'm only ariund a year in, but no sign of bad degradation of batteries like others had mentioned, hoping to never have those issues! 🤞

So far I had one 5ah battery go bad right before the warranty period. Fortunately, that was replaced. Right now, another 5ah battery is bad (just outside the warranty). I have another couple 2.5ah batteries that are bad.
I'm limping along but now only have a single 7.5ah and 5ah battery left for the mower and show blower. Soon as one of those craps out I'm at least another $200-$300 bucks for a replacement battery. Seriously considering transitioning away from Ego. Super sad as their other stuff works great. No complaints (outside of price). But their batteries are just not cutting it. Either need to be cheaper or built better for long-term use.
