Saying you're an early adopter is a stretch if you're only on year 3. You must be doing something wrong if you're having battery issues already . I am on year 7 and my batteries degraded to like 50%. Still using all my original batteries the came with the tools.

I am an early EGO adopter (got them when Home Depot had the contract with them). I have 5 of their tools and 4 of their batteries. I am on year 3 and all my batteries are turning into paperweights. My 5ah hold like 30% of their original charge, and my 2.5ah literally give me 15 minutes or less on like my leaf blower.

The tools work great. The convenience of electric is super. But I am mad I am going to have to drop $500 already on some new batteries. There is no way I would even come close to $500 of gas at this point.

I'm not saying don't go electric/EGO, just be aware that you will be replacing these batteries MUCH FASTER than you anticipate. Don't go electric because you think it will be cheaper in the long run - it won't be.

I don't the the lone batteries are really a deal unless you already have all the tools you want? You can get the 765 blower for $300 with a 5ah battery for example, and that blower is pretty beast. Or a 650 blower for 220 or so.

That's strange I started using Ego tools what sounds like the same time. Maybe a little longer. I'm in year 4 with little change in battery life so far.

I've got 4-5ah batteries. Two with the battery fuel indicator, two without. 1-7.5ah battery and 1-2.5ah battery. The two 5ah batteries I actually got as a package deal for $250 with a single stage snow blower that someone was selling at a yard sale who was moving to a warmer climate so those two batteries only have 3 years on them.

That being said during the winter I do as suggested and bring them indoors. I think I've only had to use them 2-3 times during the winter months. But April-November they're getting used no less than once a week if not twice or more.

Doing the fuel math in gas alone on just mowing for me was about $300 with $3.00/gallon gas over 3 years. Factor in spark plugs, air filters and oil for 3 years and you start to get really close to that $399 cost of the 7.5ah battery. If you make it into year 4, you'll be well over. And electricity cost for charging we're talking cents per charge.

You're an idiot. EV batteries with thermal management (in cars) lose approximately 1% capacity per year. Nice try though…

Shit, I had an 8 yr old Nissan Leaf with no thermal management and lost 11% in 8+ years. Take your misinformed BS elsewhere.

Same. Except I also own a blower, an edger, and a mower - 4 batteries total.
Same, I have been running ego for about 4-5 years now. 6 batteries of various sizes, even more tools. No issues with any of them. Keep the batteries in the basement.

is Ego the best brand for e tools? Could they stand up to commercial use? I'm sick of hearing and smelling leaf blowers in my 'hood and thinking about buying these and cutting everyone's lawns

Wrong. My model 3 is at 92% battery capacity after 4 1/2 years. I'm not even mentioning the other advantages compared to gasoline cars.

I'm on year 4 and I suspect my battery capacity has diminished about 10%. I think your experience is much worse than typical. How do you store your batteries?

Agreed. Our 5 year old battery is still at 75%.

I am new to the ego game. Just purchased the 400watt inverter for a camping trip. Does anyone know how long I can run my cpap and charge my phone on a 2.5ah battery?

Did you try to use the battery warranty before the 3 year hit. If you lost that much capacity at 3 you should of filed a warranty claim with them.

The Ego fast charger is actively cooled and lowers the CC after 80% SOC so it won't markedly decrease the life of the battery. Keeping it inside and in a stable lower temp (60-80F) will help and also don't run them all the way down. Running them down is probably the #1 killer of these batteries, and if you can wait for them to cool after use that will help.

So what you say are all excellent practices 100%, I wouldn't stray away from the Ego fast charger.
I've read these ego batteries as a hibernation mode if they are not used within a month. They will go to 30 percent and go dormant until you need them and start charging. I wonder if people just leaves them in the charger like power tools. Not good for the batteries.

Many people on many Ego threads complain about battery life given the high price of Ego. Ego needs to provide a 5 year warranty for bats, same as their tools. Yes, I had a ego bat go bad after 3 1/2 years of very light use and used only 7 months per year. Another bat is 4 1/2 years old and still works fine. And yes, mine are stored in the house and not on the charger. Contrast that with a couple Ridgid bats that are almost 20 years old and still working. And several other 10+ year old bats with no failures.

They all have a 3 year warranty. Did u register them so you can see the date? If not I believe they go by the date on the battery.

I switched to Costco Greenworks 80v. 8 year warranty. Hard to beat that. EGO Customer Service is pretty terrible. Imho.

Buy the generic one. Works much better than original Ego .
Ego makes good blower and trimmer, bad mower.
