The best choice these days may be the Crucial MX500. The Samsung 870 EVO is an option but they were having serious reliability issues. I'm not sure if that's been resolved yet.

Using this as an external drive with an adapter... this is way cheaper....than a lot of actual external drives...

These are becoming less expensive than Thumb Drives! Picked up a couple of these and some External Drive Cases, using one for Music projects & the other for Photo projects. Not interested in speed or performance, just simple storage and for people like me they are perfect.

I know they've released a firmware update but I'm still skeptical that all the serious issues have been resolved. I think it's too early to say for sure. Tech spec and if you want to write and read a crap load of files SATA is slow as hell. Even external $10 enclosure for 10Gbit nvme will get 850MBytes a second access. SATA gets 550MBytes max. If you do direct nvme. It's anywhere from 1600MBytes/s to 7000MB based on price and PCIE version


Practical standpoint. Not many people will need full nvme speed. 99% will be ok with this SATA speed as storage cost is close to 50% of a cheaper NVME 2TB from say teamgroup.

I been buying 2TB NVME with enclosure as I don't need a boot drive and I can pop into new machines later. Probably will never happen as newer nvme will tickle my fancy later and I will just get newer and faster nvme (not because I need the performance but because it's on the market for sale!!!!)

Edit: read the post wrong. I thought it was 2TB. Yah. I rather get NVME instead
