You can ride a hybrid bike on gravel fine. Go with a hybrid bike. It sounds like you are riding casually around with comfort as a high priority. If you aren't hitting the mountain bike trails or riding the gravel trails seriously for speed/distance, don't go for either mountain or gravel bike. Use the right tool for the job. Use a hybrid bike as it rides more comfortably on the road than both. Faster and smoother ride than a mountain bike on the road too. The Giordano Brava hybrid bike is on sale for $209.99 and it has nice components like 80mm fork suspension, tektro disc brakes, 24 speed, Shimano components like Atlus derailleur, internal cable routing, etc. This is a hybrid bike with 700cx40mm tires so it isn't for the legit mountain bike trails. If you are definitely going to hit the mountain bike trails and are on a tight budget, the GT Aggressor at $300 is a pretty solid deal.

The 8th gear is when the chain jumps out of gear.

The Schwinn Axum only comes in one size and it's pretty big. If you're not 6' tall, cross that right off your list, regardless of components or upgradeability or whatever.

This GT comes in four different sizes to provide a comfortable and safe fit for practically everyone.

This is the 2023 GT Aggressor and not exactly like the 2019 GT Aggressor spec. Key differences is the microshift is replacing the Shimano with front & rear derailleurs and shifter. The 2019 model had Shimano Acera rear derailleur, Shimano Tourney front derailleur and Shimano Altus shifters and was definitely 24 speed. In this 2023 model description, it says 21 speed but says x8 Microshift components like shifters, derailleur and cassette? Confusing. I googled it and it shows up as 21 speed. There is a Shimano shortage currently. Microshift has been being used as a replacement along these Shimano lines because of Shimano factories being closed down and understaff due to pandemic. I have Acera and Altus and they work great. I never tried Tourney or Microshift.

$300 seems like the right price point for this bike. At $800 I would expect hydraulic disk brakes, a lockout fork or better drivetrain components. I mean heck, this Huffy is running similar components for $125. Maybe this is a slick deal for an entry level bike. https://www.huffybikes.com/scout-...ike-56321/

The bullet points say "21-speed drivetrain" which would mean 7 gears in the back and possibly a freewheel, but the specs say it's an 8-speed cassette. Can anyone confirm what it actually is?
The multiplication is always 2x or 3x. It's likely a 3X7 = 21. Especially for the price

This or the Giordano gravel?
This GT is a XC hardtail mountain bike and the Giordano gravel bike is a gravel bike. They ride very differently and have different purposes. The big difference is a flat bar vs drop bar. I find flat bars to be easier to turn and more comfortable. Rider position is quite different. Do you ride gravel trails or mountain bike trails? With the mountain bike trails that I ride, I think a gravel bike would fail and be quite dangerous. If you have no intention to ride either trails, I suggest a hybrid bike.

Lot of good youtbe videos explaining the differences with Gravel bike vs XC mountain bike.

That model is $100 more.
You weren't addressing price in your comment just size. It also comes with a dropper.

Own an Axum and tuned this for a friend - get an Axum if you want to do hardcore trails if has a more aggressive geo and tapered head tube. which allow use of modern forks without an adapter. I built mine and took it to the bike park and black trails.

The aggressor would be a better decent all-around-bike however if you want to ride it on the road and light trails with the 3x drivetrain - it does get out of sync though and it took me a while to fix my friends but will give you more range.
Can't wait for the Axum to go on that crazy sale again. I am happy with my Fuji 29'er that I got for a steal but having the Axum to take a buddy out with me and just conquer ANYTHING seems awesome. 29ers do surprisingly well on sand with pressure set super low.

The bike has some pretty bad reviews. Low quality components.

Need a bike for casual ride around neighborhood and light gravel maybe, so purely in terms of quality which one is better GT or Giordano ? I know both are different category bikes but just want to know which one has better quality parts which would last longer
