Does this fold for storing or in case of a windy day?

The bags aren't watertight. If you fill them with water it'll just leak out the seams.
Funny, we've used water in ours for years and it doesn't even leak during a hurricane when usually everything leaks due to the pressure drop.

Any reason to buy sand vs just filling with water or dirt from the yard?
Manual advises 220 pounds of sand. Easier to get the right weight and fill with sand. I bought this one.

It will leak from the bag. Be prepared if picking it up in a car or suv to have something under the bags to catch the leaking sand.

Why would anyone thumbs down this comment?
Maybe they didn't think I provided enough information? I'm not sure myself.

Manual advises 220 pounds of sand per. That would be 660 pounds total for 3 umbrellas. The sand comes in 50 pound bags so needed 700 pounds. Plus each of the bags leak quite a bit so I probably only came home with around 680-690 pounds.

Thanks for thinking the best of people.

How long was the box it came in? I'm wondering if I can fit it in my SUV.
89" long if you squish the ends to be what size it was meant to be. 18.5 inches wide and 8 inches deep.

Does this have the tilt feature (e.g., works at different angles as the sun goes down)?

$249 regular price at my HD. Cheap Hampton Bay models being passed off as these. No mention anywhere on the boxes of Sunbrella fabric.
These were right next to the Hampton Bay models in my Home Depot in the front area that you walk in with a big yellow paper advertising they are on sale. Two stacks. They look virtually the same. On the box you have to search for Sunbrella. I triple checked to make sure I got the right ones.

Can we use water instead of sand? I know sand is heavier but I'd also like the flexibility of moving it in the future
Some people state they use water. Manufacturer doesn't recommend that however.

From page 11 of the manual:

Filling the sand bags
Pull to open the velcro pouch on the sand bag (N) and fill with sand.
NOTE: The sand bags (N) are to be filled with sand only.
NOTE: For proper stability of the offset umbrella, please place 110 lbs of sand into each sand bag for a total of 220 lbs.

Manual there. Page 22 indicates that you can lock it in place at a different angle. I haven't tried it yet. Going to pressure wash the deck before putting these out this weekend.

"Fully loosen the knob on the umbrella shade (G) by turning it counterclockwise, then slide the umbrella handle down to adjust the angle of the umbrella.
When the umbrella is at the desired angle to shade the sunlight, fully tighten the knob by turning it clockwise."

According to the FAQ's it does not have a separate tilt function. The angle of the umbrella does change as you raise and lower it. Also a lot of questions show people looking for a replacement canvas due to rips, and alot of people experiencing failed solar lights.

Can you share the Menards link please? I actually own the Wayfair one, so I'm not judging solely by the pictures. The slide mechanism is robust and very easy to use. The crank mechanism works perfectly, which seems to be the issue with the Home Depot one (see the recent 1 star reviews). You do have to purchase the weighted base part separately. But the quality of the umbrella itself seems to surpass the Home Depot one. The 1-star reviews for the Wayfair are about the weighted base not coming with the umbrella, or people setting it up without the weighted base and it tipping over. There are very few complaints about the umbrella itself in comparison to the Home Depot one. To each their own. Just wanted to share my personal experience since that is usually more valuable than pics and speculation on these threads.

I bought the chili red setup took about an hour. By myself. I was disappointed they put the midnight blue on sale now because originally that one was full price. I wanted that navy one.
Where do you see different colors of the Sunbrella version? I couldn't find any except Sand.

Any real information is enough here. No one is getting paid to contribute. Plus, quite the eye opener of just how much umbrellas can weigh! They sound innocent enough, but these arent tote umbrellas to slip in your pocket!

what's different between this and an umbrella that fits into a holder? my umbrellas look same size, but at full price don't come anywhere near the 500 dollar price, probably not 250 price even. but it is a crank shaft like this. Thanks in advance. was looking at getting a new holder for one but wondering if I should just buy this.
