I have a surge (hydraulic impact). I keep it in my "do all" bag. Unless I'm drilling metal or need a really precise hole it works great. Helps me keep my bag lighter since I don't have to carry a separate drill and an extra battery.

I got these and was surprised at how short the thin ones are. Maybe this is normal for impact bits, but I needed longer bits for my application.

You should generally be using a drill for drilling wherever possible... but the main thing to be wary of doing with an impact driver is trying to drill hard materials (e.g. steel).

It's not marketed "impact" because you need impact for drilling. It's marketed "impact" because the drills have a hex bit adapter that will fit in impacts and [should be] more impact-resistant than other drill bits. The idea is that you can drill & drive with just an impact driver on hand.

Shouldn't have a problem with breakage though even with an impact if you're just drilling holes in drywall/studs/wood in line with how most homeowners/diyers might use a set like this.

heh, perhaps nothing new to either of you but I've found with mine, if you hinge them out to 90 degrees then wiggle the bit back and forth (parallel to the bit holder), it can help with removal. But yeah, they are kind of.. difficult. These cases are apparently being phased out in favor of their newer 'packout-compatible' cases

These drill aren't great. For $10 it's fine and you can't expect much but they won't last long drilling metals. If you're just drilling wood, no problem.

Wouldn't you say hex drill bits are less accurate tho?
