Im a noob at this. Does this work as actual seed? Or is this just prep for the seed? Also is this a good deal?

Contains actual seed, along with fertilizer and soil improver. It is meant for filling gaps in thin lawns (not for initial seeding). Normally runs about $55 for this bag.

I tried 4 bags during a price mistake. My least favorite product as much did not either germinate or took really long to germinate. I did all the proper steps and loved the idea of fertilizer plus seed but didn't get my usual results when over-seeding and using a starter fertilizer. Probably your best bet going forward.

I had good results using this last fall, lawn looks great coming out of spring

Thick'r Lawn is less than 10% seed so you're basically buying fertilizer which can be purchased for less.

I would recommend overseeding with Scott's Rapid Grass which is 70% seed and 30% fertilizer and using an all purpose or starter fertilizer regularly every few weeks after for better results. Amazon has a great deal going on Rapid Grass right now as well:

Dot buys Scott's seed it is bad. It is mostly filler always. You get like 10 percent seed and germination is lower as well.

I see the description says "Scott's turd seed". That must be the fertilizer part.

Both.

But usually cheaper to buy seed and fertilizer separately, then walk the lawn twice to put both down... ( or wait, mix the seed and the fertilizer into one big trash bag, then drop that mixture down walking the lawn once....).

I've tried both ways. This mix isn't "amazing" - just saves you one extra walk (or mixing step) while costing more.

I always wondered about these things, but it seems to me like you are paying seed prices for seed,fertilizer,compost mix. Does it work much better than laying seed and stuff down yourself? Does it save a lot of time?
