Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank Pendolf
Why people think auto manufacturers want you to destroy their engines is beyond me.
The manufacturer DOESN'T PAY FOR THE OIL so why wouldn't they error on the safe side.
Your local mechanic or oil change place makes MONEY on early changes.
Do people really think they know more than these BILLION dollar manufacturers who have the BEST TESTING EQUIPMENT IN THE WORLD.
M1 at Walmart is close to $30/5qt. jug.
Kirkland full synthetic, Amazon Basics and Walmart Super Tech are all the same full synthetic oil from Warren distribution. Kirkland is the best buy. There's no data suggesting this oil is inferior to M1. It exceeds all the latest API standards.
You would think there would be plenty of proof by now. Yet I still see none. Here's a question for you to think about. Why not change it at 3k instead of 5k? By your logic wouldn't that make your engine last even longer???
" penzoil is crap check project farm review"?
or does "CRAP " mean a different thing ?
If you would like to discuss what I meant, we can have that discussion, but only after you retract what you imagined and attributed as my writings.

How many Millions of cars are sold every year? How many manufacturers say no problem with 10k oil changes?
So by your logic I should see at least hundreds of thousands of bad engines in the junk yard. I also should see just as many lawsuits from customers who were lied to by those manufacturers.
Yet I see NONE. Maybe you can list a few .
Look do what you want it's your money. Can I assume you also change all fluids at half the recommended intervals. Obviously they must be lying about those also.
My friends car burns 1.5qt per 6k at 45k after he had oil changes done by the dealer at recommended 10k intervals. I did two oil changes for him and found that.
I've also sued my car manufacturer and won some thousands of dollars.
But speaking of "my logic". Engine doesn't go into junkyard for burning oil. You just add more oil. Obtain clue.
Although European motor oil is better, using it or not is still varying from person person, if you are driving like your mom or redline a $1000 corolla, a standard American Motor Oil is perferctly fine. if you drive it like you stole it, or you actually own a European Car, the user manual is asking to use motor oil with such better specifications and approvals not with API standard.
5000 miles oil change is not necessary (most of the time), but it is nothing wrong with it if I am the business owner, apart from money, it is showing on the user manual that usually it is required to change it every 5000 mile if you are driving under "severe" condition. Although 90% of drivers are not driving under "severe" condition, as I dont know how YOU drive YOUR car. So changing it every 5000 just to be safe.

Oil change is the one of the easiest and most profitable business in auto repair industry, fast turnaround, no expensive equipment\tool or experienced high cost mechanics are required.

People seem to forget the biggest reason why your local mechanic loves the early oil changes. It's because once they get your car in there they Love to find other things they say need fixing.
They're in business to make as much money as they can.
