I don't get it. So your fridge fails. Then you proceed to cram food from your 24/29 cubic feet fridge into a 100 qt cooler....that's not even powered to begin with? Throw in a few bag of ice and hope it maintain fridge level of coolness for a few days?
Why not just buy a backup non LG fridge / freezer at that point and just hope both your fridge don't fail at the same time?
These should be pretty decent. I've been looking at rotomolded coolers for a few months and the prices haven't been great, like this 10% sale is pretty typical. Just not enough to get me to bite. Finally picked up a 45 qt Fatboy cooler for $190, and it looks pretty solid. Will have to test it to see how it does, but if you are considering a hard cooler you might give them a look. I have a Kong 70 qt and it is great, but their prices have really climbed a lot. I probably won't ever get a Yeti since I'm kind of annoyed that their "sizes" are very misleading (the Yeti Tundra 35 is actually about 24 quarts, etc) and the prices are just too high.
I bought their 65 quart cooler probably 6-7 years ago and it's been great for car camping and backyard BBQs.
I also have an older version of their their 20-can soft pack cooler with the SidePack Deluxe add-on and it's my go-to cooler. So versatile and just the right size for day trips. It's been extremely durable and surprised me for being a soft-side cooler.
Also have several of their tumblers and they've been great for 5+ years
I bought one of their ice packs (2pack) that are on sale. Way cheaper than yeti ice. I went ahead and added a bottle to get free shipping. They also have 10% off for military through id.me

This is helpful to know as the number of options out there can give you a headache. CaterGATER, Kong, Lifetime, Ozark Trail, Cabelas, Pelican, Big Frig, ORCA, Canyon Coolers, Siberian Coolers, you get the idea.
From my limited research so far, it seems like how well a cooler can hold ice has some proportion to how large the cooler is + quality of gaskets + thickness of insulation + color. I have watched several review videos and seems like the relative size of the cooler is a big determining factor.
What has been helpful is to look at the relative weight of the cooler empty as some of the brands mentioned are extremely heavy before you put anything in it. This is why I started looking at wheeled coolers.
Also one of the annoying things about the Yeti Tundra Haul is that they don't sell dividers or baskets for that specific model. You can buy them third party on Amazon but the total cost of ownership goes up significantly. When Yeti was the only option around, they made sense. Now that there are so many options out there that have comparable performance, you really are buying Yeti for the brand/luxury factor like buying a Gucci bag. So what I am looking for is value proposition (performance + features + price) and RTIC sorta makes sense. I am debating on whether to pick up a CaterGATER though because you can get a huge cooler for a much cheaper price than RTIC coolers.
Also if you are a homeowner, consider that your refrigerator will fail at some point and you will need to preserve the food while you are getting it repaired. We have an LG refrigerator and the compressors have failed twice at this point which is one of the variables in my decision to pick up a Rotomolded cooler. If you are going to have $200-300 in food spoilage, then expensive coolers are not looking so expensive anymore.
Exactly, I've found the same things. Size is a huge factor in how long things can stay cool, unsurprisingly (more cold mass = stays cold longer). What was surprising is the color of the cooler. Any deviation from white can increase the heat of the outside of the coolers by as much as 50 degrees F. That's not a small consideration, and it's why I went with white for my Fatboy 45.
You're also right about the dizzying array of cooler brands out there, and of course most all of them are made in China. Several use the same vendor and slap their sticker on it, that's the only difference. Cordova is a decently priced brand to look at if you are looking to buy USA-made (made in Idaho), and they are having a sale right now too. I haven't purchased one of their coolers but they do seem to be well reviewed.

I just bought Cordova. The top latches are genius, can't believe others didn't think of it. Made in the USA a huge plus.
My wife bought me one of the hard coolers. Not impressed unfortunately.
Super heavy when full of ice.
No real wheel kit unless you want to spend almost the same price as the cooler.
Ice doesn't last very long unless you pre freeze the cooler by putting ice in several hours before hand to drop the internal temp. Took it camping in 90 degree heat and had to refill ice daily.
On th plus side it does come with a divider that doubles as an ice pack and a heavy duty basket to keep things out of the ice.
I'm sure there are better ones out there for this price.

The Fatboy 45 looks like a nice model. Did you get any of the accessories like the basket or divider?
