There are real quality differences, even between lines of the same brand. We tried using an economy version of Cascade and it clogged our dishwasher's plumbing. We had to disassemble it and clean out the hoses by hand before it would start working again. At the opposite end of the spectrum, their best stuff, Platinum, works great in the same dishwasher. If there can be such large differences in the same brand, I would expect similar differences across different brands. My current favorite is Finish Quantum.
I don't know why people buy pods, let alone powder in pods. It cost about .10 per pod is too much for me. I buy the 25oz dishwashing powder from Dollar tree for $1.25 and put all the powder in a plastic container with a measuring spoon to use. Link here.

They are all the same. You can save even more by buying the cheapest dishwasher detergent in powder form and help the planet (less plastic) and wash cleaner (takes advantage of your dishwasher's prewash cycle).

I bought these last time and they are not made for HE dishwashers. I didn't have a problem with the Solimo version, so I didn't think anything of it but the first time I used this version it messed up my dishwasher and created a leak.
(The extra suds non-HE soaps create bubble up around the rubber seals and can dislodge them.)

If you are worried about it. Pay the extra money you mention LMAO Funny that people on the internet can make you get over this fear of "ruining" a dishwasher.

No data. But, anecdotally, Kirkland at $10 for 110 Kirkland pods works fine, and is a decent, convenient, value. Using them for years.

I agree. I have three different detergents at home currently, and only one of the three succeeds at getting coffee/tea stains out of my mugs. It is Cascade Platinum. The Costco brand pods and Walmart Gel does not work as well. Going forward, I am willing to spend the few extra pennies per load to get my stuff cleaner.

not sure about everyone else, but I really notice a difference in quality of the clean between the cheap pods and the platinum, multi-fluid expensive ones. I won't buy cheap ones anymore

tbh, when I had an old dish washer that was the case for me too, when I upgraded (bought cheapest modern one) they all work the same for me. I can't tell a cheap pod from an expensive one.
