At any given moment at my household, I may have about 100-120lb of rice. (3 bags 40lb each - 2 unopened and 1 just opened)
Get them whenever I am down to last bag, just get 1 or sometimes 2 more bags if they are on good sale at local Asian grocery store.
Rice is MUCH MUCH cheaper than bread and cooking rice is MUCH MUCH easier than turning flour into a loaf of bread.
Of course, being an Asian, it is easy to just eat rice as staple food instead of bread.

if sushi making is too ambitious for you, you can
make a great fish or seafood side dish this way;
cooked rice, then stir in rice vinegar, finely
chopped scallion(green onion) and ginger.

Once cooked, just cover it loosely and COOL it overnight. It will dry out a bit (you can throw it into fridge during summer or if you are going to keep for couple of days).
Use microwave to heat it up (makes it easier to break a part when cooking)
heat up oil, put white part of scallions to make flavor come out.
put some eggs there.
when frying rice, do not fry it for LONG, just until they break apart and evenly coated with oil.
Towards the end, put rice on the side of the pan, tilt pan a bit and put soy sauce on the empty part of the pan and let it "burn up" a bit until they get saucy (not free flowing as before) then mix it up with fried rice, this will give that bit of smoky flavor - a bit of cheating since smoky flavor SHOULD come from very high heat wok. Then put salt to taste.
If you don't normally keep MSG, then use some oyster sauce if you have them - it contains MSG usually and flavor enhances taste, but do not use a lot of it since it makes the fried rice too fishy.
Of course, you can put other stuff there as well. Experiment.
