In general, freezers do this because warm air enters it when the door is open. When you close it, all that hot air cools very quickly, effectively "shrinks," and causes a pressure imbalance for around 10 seconds. That is why it's hard to open and makes a sucking sound.

This is also explained pretty well in this Technology Connections segment [youtu.be]. I would be pretty floored if this simple chest freezer has some sort of active, gas-pumping, sealing technology. It's an Insignia after all, not a Sub Zero. But hey, maybe I'm wrong.

Just stick your finger in the rubber gasket sealing around the door and push on it a little to break the air seal.

Interesting...this is my first freezer. If what you said is accurate, why fridge don't work the same way as freezer?

The drawers are easily removable if you prefer drawers vs. shelves. I plan on using some drawers for loose things and removing the drawers on some levels and using the shelves for things that can be stacked (like a box of burgers, for example) in mine.

It does, but it's just much less of an effect, so you don't notice it. A freezer is around 0 degrees while a fridge is around 38 degrees. Assuming "normal" house temperature of 75 degrees or so, that means the temperature difference is around double with your freezer, so the air shrinks much more and causes a stronger seal.

I tried. Yea, I can open it right away after closing it gently. The vacuum sound is still there, just not that crazy anymore

We love the drawers, although it is an interesting idea to have a mix. We'd have to find shelves that fit though.
