To wit Canada is not the 51st state.
Didn't say I tried to pay with a "USA Card" …. a major international store ironically did not accept their eponymous credit card (that other retailers around the world gladly accept).

Does Costco take Discover? I thought they only took Visa?
Costco online payment takes Discover for sure with 5% cashback.

Or, just stop being poor?
In 2023, the definition of "rich" is to possess an iPhone 14.

Why not get a full frame camera if you're doing professional work? Seems counterintuitive to me unless you're going to tell me that the iPhone 14 can match the quality of something like a Sony a-series? Genuinely curious
It depends. You are comparing computation photography with physics of bigger sensors and optics. I would say that for amateur person, who is interested in posting something on facebook, computation photography and high-end smartphone may produce the "better" result than non-processed DSLR image. People like oversaturated and oversharpened images after all. And mediocre camera in hand is better than the perfect camera at home.

Jokes aside - in good conditions, iPhone will provide very decent pictures that may compete with the professional cameras. IPhone, on the other hand, is not so good in low light. Each generation, however, becomes better and this is one of the main factors to upgrade for those who care.

Neither would solve bad composition and boring photos though Smilie

For my format it's great. It's mobile (sometimes I'm in off grid areas and carry everything by foot). It doesn't require swapping SD cards after hours on end of shooting. Color Grading is minimal. Simplicity is key is sometimes and most people tend to overkill their equipment IMHO. Most importantly, it makes the guests feel more comfortable....lots of people get anxious and intimidated when there are large cameras in front of their face, the story suffers too.

Maybe but buying a $70k truck or $1m house is arguable a greater chance. If its not a phone, people will find other ways to stay in debt.
Exactly, phone is an affordable luxury like Starbucks latte. Keep for 3 years and it's worth it for the seamless experience and security.

Expensive cars and houses in top school district would be dangerous once the FANG job disappears.

I found that iPhone makes me sloppier. In my first 2-week trip last year, I used iPhone only, made 1,500 pictures and kept 200 afterwards. In my second 2-week trip, I used Fujifilm GFX, made 250 pictures, kept 200 and enjoyed the process much more.

I don't shoot people though.

I definitely appreciate this, especially If your style is journalism or something that prizes authenticity over pixel peeping. I've done my fair share of being in front of the camera to understand what you are getting at. Oddly enough, I find myself always leaning on the 'best camera is the one with you' motto lately, especially since I'm frequently on the go with two very young boys.

As the other guy noted about low light, I'm always finding myself wanting more when I have iphone in hand instead of an actual rig at night or indoors. Personally, I think the Sony A7C is in my future. I digress tho, this isn't a post about camera equipment lol. thanks for entertaining the question.

No USB-C, No thanks. Why buy a device that forces you to keep lightning cords around when the iPhone 15 is around the corner and is finally moving to a standard port?

Because people already have these cables and the phone comes with one more. No problem for me. It would be a pain to force usb-c on me since I already have several lightning cables. Also I also have lightining to usb-A cables too since my car needs usb a. Airports need them too.
