Paper? So it will rip open & fall all over the place until you can find a plastic bag & rake it back up?

U pretty much have to use it the day before yard waste collection day. If u put the grass clippings and yard waste in earlier in the week and let it site there for a few days to decompose, then the bag will deteriorate when u try to pick it up. There's a bit of timing involved with these things.

I use these. A couple of tips:
Make sure they consider it a 5 pack, and don't try to make you pay 5x the amount.
Always put something dry in the bottom, ideally broken up sticks. Grass that goes straight in will sometimes soak the bottom as it decays and cause the bag to break. Sticks in particular will allow a little air flow in the bottom. Of course if the sticks are too big they'll poke through on their own.
I leave them under an overhang in case it rains. Sometimes they fall over and get wet. It seems to come back to full strength when it dries, as long as the stuff inside doesn't get wet and continuously soak the bag from within.

Trick is to time your yard waste collection. Do it the day before the collection truck comes so it doesn't get a chance to sit and decompose

Some local governments will pick up yard waste, compost it, and offer it to their residents for free. So while you can just throw it in the trash, there can be a benefit to bagging.

The bottom does get wet pretty quick, I'd say within 24 hours. When sifting through it after 24 hours the center also tends to feel pretty warm, like it has started decomposing.

I thought that this is probably used for the first mow of the season where the clippings are dormant and all subsequent mow the clippings are left on the lawn. Do you guys bag the clippings all the time when you mow ?

We get a bin for yard waste just like for the recycle and trash.

Buy the 20 pack. It's cheaper per bag.

Why do people put grass clippings in bags? Just mow them into the grass, it's better for the lawn, your back, and saves the truck from having to haul your weight to the town mulch pile just to decay there, only to be shipped back again somewhere. So wasteful.

I use these for things that can't degrade fast enough, like sticks and fall leaves, but bagging grass just seems like unnecessary waste of time and energy.

LOL, we actually have trash police here. They have a inspection crew that goes out just before the pickup guys every now and then they peek in the bins and bags to see what is in there. I've gotten a warning sticker because I put the bin out less than half full. Such a scofflaw. I have no idea what happens to repeat offenders.
