U pretty much have to use it the day before yard waste collection day. If u put the grass clippings and yard waste in earlier in the week and let it site there for a few days to decompose, then the bag will deteriorate when u try to pick it up. There's a bit of timing involved with these things.
Make sure they consider it a 5 pack, and don't try to make you pay 5x the amount.
Always put something dry in the bottom, ideally broken up sticks. Grass that goes straight in will sometimes soak the bottom as it decays and cause the bag to break. Sticks in particular will allow a little air flow in the bottom. Of course if the sticks are too big they'll poke through on their own.
I leave them under an overhang in case it rains. Sometimes they fall over and get wet. It seems to come back to full strength when it dries, as long as the stuff inside doesn't get wet and continuously soak the bag from within.
Trick is to time your yard waste collection. Do it the day before the collection truck comes so it doesn't get a chance to sit and decompose
grass clippings doesn't decompose that fast.

I use these for things that can't degrade fast enough, like sticks and fall leaves, but bagging grass just seems like unnecessary waste of time and energy.
