Seems like a good deal? Rose gold 16gb 1tb at $1200 about 2.5months back.

That was a great deal indeed, however, it was only in rose gold which not everyone is a fan of.

Space grey is liked by a wider audience and I think this is the lowest for this configuration.

I bit. There's $50 cashback available, and I figure I can always do an external SSD for another $50 if I really need the extra capacity.

You actually think Apple is desperate enough to formally announce price drops or just that retailer prices will go even lower? I've been very tempted to go for the 14" M2 Pro at $1750

Every time the new shiny item get announced crazy sales seem to happen to clear space for new inventory. Just hoping history repeats itself.

One can always hope. The rumors are all over the place, but now MacRumors is reporting "several new Mac models announced in one of Apple's longest WWDC".

If the 15" MBA is well-priced that's probably going to be my next computer. I kept waiting for a refreshed iMac announcement, but it's looking less likely. May come later in the year outside of these events.

Go with m2 pro, this is m1 with 8 core only. I cannot believe people keep saying great deal for a mediocre product which cost over a thousand $$$ with almost 3 years old chip. I got 14" M2 Pro chip for $1600 BB open-box excellent condition. (I have this air, it's already slowing down, thats why I had to upgrade)
Curious what your experience has been with it "already slowing down"? Everything else I've read says these things smoke the Roadrunner.

Apple has always been cheap with storage and memory. I can almost guarantee the rumored 15" MacBook will start with 256gb SSD and 8gb RAM. They wouldn't have matching specs to compete with their MBP 14"/16" machines.

This is a pretty good price for a 2020 Air with these specs but it is almost a 3 year old machine by now that will receive 2-3 years less of the newest OS updates. For a little more consider either a refurbished or used 2021 MBP 14".

If the 15" MBA comes with 8GB/256GB it will be DOA in 2023.

Please don't underestimate the power of Apple and the will power of Apple fans to defend the low specs.

There's no denying that Apple's M chips are superior, but they need to stop this low configured BS to up sell their higher spec items for a huge price difference.
