Two main advantages of the Ridgid set are the detachable wheels/handle and the included wall mounting hooks for the boxes.
I have two Ridgid v1 stacks, and one Packout stack. I use one Ridgid stack for hauling around camera/lighting gear for events, and the other two for tools.
My key takeaways:
The Packout feels like it's built better, but all three have held up to a few years of abuse.
Packout has many more options if you're going to expand beyond the initial 3-piece stack. The drawer units are a big plus for the Packout lineup.
The Packout release button on the front vs the Ridgid metal clips on the sides is much easier to use, especially in tight quarters.
The Packout stuff has ~2" less internal storage width than the comparable Ridgid v1 stuff (the crate is ~4" narrower). The Packout wheels on the cart are also inset quite a bit more than the Ridgid. Ridgid offers more internal storage width at the cost of maneuverability.
That said, now that Ridgid has hinged the lid on the rolling cart (v1 wasn't hinged, and just completely detached once you unbuckled it), made the wheels detachable, added wall mount capabilities, and offer a half-width parts organizer [homedepot.com], it would be my recommendation over the Packout (taking the substantial price discrepancy into account) as long as you don't want/need drawers, or other specific Packout modules.
Like toughsystem, more than enough quality and durability for the average homewoner/diyer.
If you aren't making a living with your tools, you don't need packout, but man it's nice if you have the cash.

Like toughsystem, more than enough quality and durability for the average homewoner/diyer.
If you aren't making a living with your tools, you don't need packout, but man it's nice if you have the cash.

My main beef with Packout in general (other than cost, LOL) is that they are too big for my purposes as I will often just grab one "suitcase" to take to a job rather than wheel in the whole stack. The Ridgids are a perfect size for me, so I 3d printed some feet to be able to stack Ridgids on top of Packouts.

If you are making a living the packout is easier to organize so it may be worth it. If you just need a rolling toolbox the ridgid is hard to beat.
I've had my two stacks 10ish years and never broken the latches. The latches have popped off but you can just pop them back on.

That being said, I work out of the packout the way most service guys work out of buckets, so I'm not using it to organize, I'm throwing what I need for a single job into it and keep a few tools I always need in the tray. YMMV

My current stack is the Milwaukee base, then the drawers, then Packout modified Ridgid, then Ridgid, Ridgid, Ridgid, etc.
