90 watts is adequate for 99% of home theaters. People greatly exaggerate the amount of power necessary.

Any suggestions on speakers and a sub that pair well with this system?

OMG I'm still rocking my AVR1700 too! I can't bring myself to "upgrade" because I love the sound it produces so much, the fact that it runs cool as a cucumber even at high volume and--more than anything--Logic 7 which I wish Harman would sell to some other company since they've stopped manufacturing AVRs. Have you run into the BCO update error with yours at all?

Yea there's no pre amp outputs on the SXXXH models. Think those start at the X2X00H models.

But, if you are only running a 5.X system, you can use the remaining two speaker terminal outputs to feed a stereo speaker setup for a Zone 2.

It only has pre outs for the subs. You can get a better picture on Denon's site.

Not at all. I was on 2.0 firmware and upgraded to 3.05 via USB I think with no issues. I love my HK too.

Lucky. I attempted a firmware update and it didn't work. Do you play music files off a USB stick at all? That's always what prompts the BCO issue with mine which is a huge headache.

I updated the FW through the front USB port via flash drive which I downloaded from HK site. It wasn't connected to my network. I never tried playing of a USB stick mostly using CD player or an ipad. If you Google there is fix ...worth trying out.

Oh ok, that's probably why you've not run into it. Whenever I try and play files via USB that stupid BCO update error bricks the AVR until I do a full factory reset which gets very old. I put up with the buggy mess though because she sounds and looks so pretty. I've even got mine attached to a Thenaudio Sharc so that I can use it with my 4K TV. I'm always chomping at the bit when I see one of these AVR sales pop up though. My life would be so much easier with a new AVR but at the end of the day it's the sound quality that matters the most.
